Q: Joe, in terms of Mike Mussina, was he just not sharp or was there anything
wrong physically?
T: We don't think there is anything wrong physically. He just wasn't as sharp
as he was the other day. I think that the thing that hurt and was a little
surprising when you got the two outs in that one inning and he walks Gomez
on four pitches. It was pretty ugly.
Q: To use 8 pitchers tonight, Joe, who threw 224 pitches....How frustrating
was it not to find an answer out of the bullpen?
T: We tried, so you can do sometimes things get, you know, get away from you,
you really can't do a whole lot about it. You tried, but just things to be
catching unfortunatelly. You'd like to believe that we could stop the
bleeding somewhere along the line, especially when we grabbed the lead, you
know, our struggle again, walk the same hitter, Gomez, and led the big
trouble.
Q: You said before the game that you wanted to see Al against Grimsley who
gives up homerun to givens.(???) Did that tell you anything one way or the
other?
T: I don't think that....we know he is capable, I mean, tonight, he was just
through him too many pitches, got him ummmm......he probably was pretty
comfortable at that point of time after following up some pitches getting
him in that situation. We never pick up the right guy coming out of the
bullpen.
