就像大多數的專欄評論一樣,大家批評的是 Joe Torre
的 relief strategy,沒有及時換下 Wang.

You can't give this Angels team extra outs, because they usually take
advantage of it. Of the five runs scored, three of them were unearned. … The
biggest error of the game was Alex Rodriguez's, obviously. But maybe it
wasn't a legitimate error. Maybe he lost that ball in the lights.

What the Yankees did in this game, and when they did it consistently, you'd
have thought they'd win: they kept Chone Figgins off the base paths, and they
stopped the Angels' running game. Even when they have gotten on base and
tried to steal, Jorge Posada has made good throws.

The shame is that the Yankees wasted a good outing by Chien-Ming Wang. There
was concern over whether he would wilt under the pressure. He certainly did
not do that. He didn't walk a batter, he struck out one, and he got the
Angels to pound the ball into the ground.

You can see the lack of faith Joe Torre has in his bullpen, other than a rare
few. … He brings in Al Leiter to get the final out of the seventh inning,
and he gets the left-hander Garret Anderson to fly out to right. That should
have been it for Al Leiter. But Joe is somewhat reluctant to go to Scott
Proctor. He doesn't want to go to Tanyon Sturtze or Tom Gordon in a game that
he's losing, so he tries to roll the dice with Leiter in the eighth inning.
He gets away with retiring Vladimir Guerrero, but Bengie Molina made him pay
with the home run.

Mike Scioscia on the other hand, massaged his bullpen. He got Lackey out of
there, brought in Scot Shields to get that one out, and then went to his
secret weapon, Kelvim Escobar. He gave them two important innings. If Escobar
wasn't there - Scioscia used Shields for multiple outs in Game 1 - he'd have
had to use him for multiple outs again, and then you wouldn't know what you'd
have on Friday. Escobar was a life-saver. He also prevented them from using
Brendan Donnelly, who hasn't pitched well in a month and a half.
