Cano is AL ROY runner-up
Second baseman finishes second to A's closer Street

NEW YORK -- Robinson Cano finished second in the American League's Rookie of
the Year Award voting, behind Oakland closer Huston Street.
The Yankees second baseman earned 57 points, a distant second to Street's 97.
Cano received four first-place votes, one of five rookies to receive at least
one. Street got 15 first-place votes, following Bobby Crosby as the second
straight member of the A's to win the award.

這位洋基的二壘手獲得57分，落後Strret的97分而居第二位。Cano獲得四張第一名

"Robinson had a great impact on us as a team," said general manager Brian
Cashman. "For a guy who wasn't even on the roster at the beginning of the
season, he turned into something special."

Dom Amore from the Hartford Courant cast one of Cano's four first-place
votes, listing Tampa Bay's Jonny Gomes second (he finished third overall) and

"Although Street's numbers were incredibly impressive," Amore said, "I felt

Chicago's Tadahito Iguchi finished fourth, receiving five first-place votes.

"The fact that five different guys got first-place votes, there were a lot of

Cano hit .297 with 14 home runs, 62 RBIs and 34 doubles in his first season
in the Majors, leading all AL rookie hitters in average, slugging percentage
(.458), doubles, runs (78), hits (155), multi-hit games (47) and at-bats
(522).

Cano also ranked first among all hitters in the AL with a .335 batting
average on the road.

"The Yankees were 10-15 when they called him up, and he gave them a shot in
the arm," Amore said. "With so many good candidates, I thought Cano had the
most impact of any rookie, which is why I put him first."

Cano was called up from Triple-A Columbus on May 2, taking over the Yankees'
starting second-base job from Tony Womack.

After going 2-for-23 in his first seven games, Cano rattled off an eight-game
hitting streak, going 16-for-34 (.470) in that span. He went on to hit .310
in June and .319 in July, moving his average up to the .300 mark after three
months in the Majors.

Cano slumped in August, batting just .207, but he rebounded with a strong

"The two things that put him over the top in my view were his extra-base hits

came from behind in a pennant race, I felt he was the most valuable rookie."
