Posada hits two homers; 10-1 drubbing of Angels ends skid

ANAHEIM -- If the Yankees could find a way to face former Cy Young Award
winners every day, they would probably sign up for that.

Sunday, New York cuffed around the defending Cy Young recipient, hammering
Bartolo Colon for eight runs in two-plus innings to finish their West Coast
swing with a 10-1 victory over the Angels.

"It's been a strange road trip," said manager Joe Torre. "We start out
beating the [heck] out of Zito and finish it up beating the [heck] out of
Colon. That's not something that's done very often."

The Yankees head home with a 2-4 record, though Sunday's win allowed them to
fly east on a positive note. New York hosts Kansas City on Tuesday in its

Jorge Posada went 3-for-4 with two home runs and five RBIs, while Alex
Rodriguez also went deep. The Yanks sent 18 men to the plate in the second
and third innings, jumping out to an 8-0 lead.

Mussina allowed one run on five hits over six innings, as the Yankees lowered
their team ERA to 3.04 through the first six games.

were in every game, and one or two big hits here or there and the first week
could have been a lot different."

A-Rod got things started for the Yankees in the second inning, crushing a 1-0
pitch from Colon over the center-field fence for his second homer of the
year. Rodriguez has now homered eight times in 45 career at-bats against
Colon.

who has a Cy Young, he can stick it right up you-know-where. You have to stay
focused and attack."

"Any time I take the mound against him, Alex is a dangerous hitter," said
Colon through an interpreter. "This was not the first time he got me and it

Jason Giambi singled and Hideki Matsui reached on a Colon error, setting up
Posada's three-run blast to right, which came on a 1-2 fastball. Derek Jeter
added an RBI double later in the inning, giving New York a 5-0 lead.

Colon returned for the third, quickly putting two men on base. Posada doubled

two-run double against Esteban Yan, closing the book on Colon.

"When you jump out and score five runs in the second and three in the third,
that's a big deal," Mussina said. "We didn't just say, 'OK, we have five,
here we go.' We kept the pressure on, which was good to see."

Mussina, who retired six of seven batters to open the game, allowed three
singles to open the third after watching the long third inning. But the
Angels managed just one run in the inning, as Mussina got Tim Salmon to fly
out with the bases loaded to end the frame.

The Yankees added runs in the fifth and sixth, including one on a shot by
Posada, who now has 12 multihomer games in his career. After going 4-for-30
with runners in scoring position in their last four losses, the Yanks went
6-for-12 in those situations on Sunday.

try to do anything possible to stay positive, and that's what we did today."
