Four of the best baseball players of all time, who all have New York
area ties -- Mickey Mantle, Mel Ott, Hank Greenberg and Roy Campanella
-- were honored on commemorative "Baseball Sluggers" stamps Saturday
at Yankee Stadium.

And while each player racked up numerous awards during their careers,
David Mantle, son of Mickey Mantle, wasn't shy in putting the most
recent accomplishment at the top.

"Being on the stamp, that is like the ultimate honor now," Mantle

to release any more baseball stamps, and Postmaster General John E.
Potter isn't in any rush to toss around the distinction
lackadaisically.

But it took more than impressive statistics and a place in the Hall of
Fame to land them on a stamp. The players were selected because they
were American, as well as baseball, legends.

"Stamps are designed to honor the places, events and people that made
America great," Potter said. "When you think about America, Americana

David Mantle and Danny Mantle, Campanella's daughter, Joni Road,

But I think if he were here today, I believe he wouldn't believe
this."
