    I find the whole process of shouting questions at George Steinbrenner as he
leaves Yankee Stadium to be disgraceful. It's basically journalistic entrapment
with a 76-year-old man as the victim.

But Steinbrenner said something interesting today when asked about the trade
deadline. "I like Bobby Abreu," he said. "Everybody likes Bobby Abreu."

That's borderline tampering. But it's also revealing because it would seem to
indicate the Yankees are pursuing Abreu enough that Steinbrenner is involved.

Abreu has a lot of money left on his contract: roughly $6.5 million this season,
$15 million for 2007 and an option for $16 million for 2008 or a $2 million
buyout. He also has a complete no-trade clause. To get him to approve a trade
could require that option being picked up. Even for the Yankees, $37.5 million
is a lot to assume.

Or is it? If the Yankees add Abreu, it frees them from keeping Gary Sheffield
for 2007. That saves $13 million. Plus the more money the Yankees take on, the
less they would have to give the Phillies in return in terms of prospects.

Abreu is a good OBP guy who could blossom once he gets away from the negativity
in Philadelphia. He could certainly give the Yankees some balance in the lineup
being left-handed. In a lot of ways it makes sense.

Any chance that it wasn't a coincidence that T.J. Beam was called up right
before the Yankees went to Philly in June?

這表示洋基想要Abreu的消息大概確實度很高..因為已經把老闆都拉進來了... 記者認為
如果洋基吃下他的大合約的話大概不需要付出很大的代價, 而且因為這樣明年不需要跟
Sheffield續約所以.....

   看看會不會成真吧....
