Sheff's progress slowed

SEATTLE -- While Hideki Matsui took a step forward yesterday by getting
doctor's approval to hit off a tee, the Yankees don't expect Gary Sheffield
to receive the same clearance for another three weeks, severely hindering his
chances of coming back.

西雅圖報導─當昨天大松井經由醫生的允許在進行打擊練習(球置於一跟桿上)的時候，
洋基並不期望老薛能在三個禮拜後有和松井一樣的狀況，老薛回來的機會受到嚴重阻礙

Brian Cashman revealed yesterday that the hand specialist who operated on
Sheffield's left wrist told the Yankees' general manager that he doesn't
expect to clear Sheffield to hit off a tee until around Sept. 15, which would
leave just more than two weeks in the regular season.

昨天負責老薛左手腕的專家告訴現金人，他不期待老薛能在9月15號之前能做打擊練習
(球置於一跟桿上)，可能得在季賽結束後兩個禮拜才能回來

Because Sheffield would then have to proceed to live batting practice and
simulated games before returning to the Yankees, it seems highly unlikely he
could do that in two weeks. Cashman refused to rule Sheffield out, but
admitted, "The time frame is short."

因為老薛在回來洋基之前得進行打擊與模擬練習，但在兩個禮拜內似乎不可能完成這件事
，現金人拒絕判老薛出局，但不得不承認時間非常的緊迫

Sheffield, who had surgery in June to correct a torn ligament and a
dislocating tendon in his left wrist, received clearance early last week to
swing a bat under water. He said last week that he was scheduled to meet
again with hand specialist Charles Melone today. Sheffield's attorney, Rufus
Williams, did not return a phone message last night.

老薛在經過手腕的外科手術之後，提早在水裡面進行揮棒(囧 我不知道這樣翻對不對)，
老薛上禮拜跟主治醫生約今天複診，然而尚未與老薛的經紀人取得聯繫

Matsui, meanwhile, received clearance to begin tee work after a CT scan that
was reviewed by hand specialist Melvin Rosenwasser and team physician Stuart
Hershon. Cashman said Matsui could be in line to swing at soft tosses by the
weekend.

同一時間，松井在醫生檢查確認後，開始進行打擊練習(球置於一跟桿上)。
現金人說松井在這個週末將可以進行柔性的打tosses練習

The minor-league schedules end the first week of September, and manager Joe
Torre said it's possible Matsui could be ready to play in a rehab game before
then.

現金人說大松井來得及在9月第一個禮拜小聯盟賽季結束的時候，進行練習賽

Before flying here last night to continue rehabbing, Matsui told Japanese
reporters: "This is one further step toward recovery. I'm only going to be
hitting off the tee. I'm just going to give it my best each day toward making
it back to the team."

在飛離西雅圖的前一天晚上，大松井說這將是復健過程的一大步，

Mike Mussina, who will miss his next start because of tightness in his right
groin, threw off flat ground during batting practice ... Former Yankees
pitching coach Mel Stottlemyre, who resides in Issaquah, Wash., visited with
Torre before the game.

因為鼠蹊部問題將在下一場先發缺席的Moose，在平地進行傳接球球練習。在比賽前，
前任投手教練Stottlemyre找上了Torre了解情形。
