DESPITE PAIN, PAVANO IS STILL ON SCHEDULE By GEORGE KING August 28, 2006 -- ANAHEIM - The Yankees are downplaying Carl Pavano's latest physical ailment but knowing the pitcher's history, a stiff hair follicle should be a concern. As reported in Sunday's Post, Pavano experienced a problem in his right side following Friday night's rehab start for Columbus (Triple-A). Pavano denied there was a problem Saturday night but yesterday Joe Torre confirmed there is an issue with the oft-injured right-hander who has appeared in 17 games since signing a four-year, $40 million deal after the 2004 season. "He has a little something going on right here," Torre said pointing under his right arm in the rib cage area. "They don't think it's an issue. The will get it checked out [today] just in case it is an issue. But they still are planning him to work a [bullpen session today]. He is still scheduled for his next start and it hasn't been determined if it will be for Columbus or us." Pavano's next turn is Thursday when the Clippers are in Durham and Jaret Wright is slated to start against the Tigers at Yankee Stadium. It's unclear who will examine Pavano, who will remain in Columbus - even though the Clippers are in Charlotte tonight - for that bullpen session today. Torre said the problem didn't surface from Friday night's outing in which Pavano went six innings, allowed eight hits, two runs, walked one, fanned five and threw 89 pitches. "They don't and he doesn't seem to be concerned because evidently he has had this before he pitched," Torre said. "It seems to be something he can deal with." Considering Pavano's medical history. he hasn't been able to deal with much. * Hideki Matsui moved from hitting off a tee to soft toss yesterday in the batting cages. The next step is live batting practice but Matsui doesn't know when he will be cleared to do that. "At this point nothing is set up," said Matsui, who has an appointment with the doctor this week. "But maybe some time this week. The trainer and doctor will decide." * Torre had Melky Cabrera originally slated to hit second yesterday but scratched the left fielder from the lineup 90 minutes before the game due to a dental problem that is going to require work. "After [Saturday's] game, he had to go to the dentist, he had some puffiness going on," Torre said. "He has future root canal in his plans probably [today] or Tuesday. He was really uncomfortable so we scratched him." Torre used Bernie Williams in left field and batted him seventh. Cabrera entered the game n the middle of the eighth. * Jason Giambi felt better yesterday than Saturday when he left with cramps throughout his body and needed two IV fluid containers. However, Torre didn't start him at first or as the DH. Giambi hit for Nick Green in the ninth and said he will be ready to play tomorrow night. http://0rz.net/231Mm -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 140.109.23.211 ※ 編輯: yyhong68 來自: 140.109.23.211 (08/28 17:24)
