BOSTON -- Mike Mussina will have his turn in the rotation skipped this week,
as Joe Torre decided to play it safe with the pitcher's injured groin.

穆帥將跳過一次先發，因老拖對他安全考量。

Jeff Karstens, who was called up from Triple-A over the weekend, will start
in Seattle on Tuesday, as the Yankees pushed Jaret Wright back from Tuesday
to Friday, when he will start in Anaheim.

從3A被叫上來的Karstens，將在星期二先發對上水手。而原本先發萊特將往後移到星期五
對上天使。

Torre informed Mussina of his decision before Monday's game.

在星期一賽前老拖告訴穆帥他的決定。

"He said, 'I think we should skip you, because that's the smart thing to do,
'" Mussina said. "With the [Aug. 28] off-day coming, 10 days could be 11 days.
I wasn't going to fight with him, because I hadn't picked up a ball yet."

穆帥說：他跟我說"我們會你休息一次，因為這是明智的作法。隨著8/28移動日的到來，
有10或11天，我將不會上場，因為我還不能投球。

Mussina left Sunday night's game after four innings with tightness in his
right groin, the same problem which forced him to leave his June 30 start
against the Mets after four frames.

"I don't feel too bad," Mussina said before the game. "I would say it's
similar. I can't say whether it's worse or not as bad, but I don't have any

Mussina received treatment and rode the stationary bike in the clubhouse on
Monday morning, but he won't throw or run until Tuesday. Even though Torre
made his decision, Mussina left the possibility open that he would be able
to take the mound sooner than expected.

穆帥在星期一早上接受治療，並騎騎固定的腳踏車，不過在星期二前沒丟球或跑步。雖
老拖做了跳一次先發的決定，穆帥還是希望能快點丟球。

"We all benefit by getting a day off once in a while," Mussina said. "We'll
see how I feel. I may fight with him, but knowing Joe, it won't get me very
far."

Mussina will have to do maintenance on the injury for the remainder of the
season, at which time he will be able to rest his leg for a month to let it
heal completely.

全復元。

"I know I didn't blow it out; it wasn't one pitch where things just let go
and I had a really painful sensation," Mussina said. "I've done it a lot
worse than this before. I'm going to have to stay after it for the rest of
the year," he said. "This is the first time I've had it crop up on me twice
in one season."

Ready to debut: Karstens, who was recalled from Columbus on Saturday, will
be making his big-league debut when he takes the mound Tuesday.

"I'm excited," said Karstens, who watched the Yankees win the final three
games this weekend against the Red Sox. "Going to Seattle, it will be a
little different environment without the rivalry. I'm just going to treat it
like any other game I've pitched this year, do what I do and not any more."

Light lineup: With his team in the middle of its 21-game, 20-day road trip,

hitter, starting Nick Green at shortstop.

Damon entered the game for one inning of defense, but Giambi and Posada
remained on the bench during New York's 2-1 victory. Green doubled and scored

"If you're going to play 162, you're going to need contributions from a lot
of people," Torre said. "You have to show confidence in everybody. The players

Torre plans to give Robinson Cano the day off entirely on Tuesday in Seattle,
as he continues to do what he can to keep his players fresh.

"It was a plan that we had," Torre said. "It's the best that we can do right
now."

, Mariano Rivera was unavailable for the Yankees on Monday.

"Night game last night, two innings; if this was a night game, I'd consider it
," Torre said. "I don't want him pitching two games in the same day."

With Rivera out, Torre used Octavio Dotel, Mike Myers and Scott Proctor in the
 seventh, then kept Proctor in for the eighth. Proctor pitched in four of the
five games this weekend, allowing one run over six innings.

沒了里維拉，老拖讓Dotel,Myers,Proctor投第七局，然後天天P再投第八局。天天P在這
五場球裡出賽四場，總計投6局失一分。

Myers struck out David Ortiz in a big spot in the seventh, the sixth
consecutive time this season that the left-hander has retired the MVP
candidate.

"I know the one guy that I'm going to be facing in this lineup," Myers said.
"It's not a whole lot of fun to think about, but it's fun when you succeed."

Kyle Farnsworth, who hadn't pitched since Friday night, when he took a line
drive off his right lower leg, pitched a perfect ninth for his second save
of the season.

Coming up: The Yankees travel west to continue their 11-game road trip,
opening a three-game set with the Mariners in Seattle on Tuesday. First pitch
