Right-hander has developed tendinitis in right index finger By Mark Feinsand / MLB.com NEW YORK -- With their rotation already disrupted by Friday night's rainout and the prospect of four games in two days this weekend, the Yankees will also be without Cory Lidle when they travel to Toronto next week. Lidle will have his turn in the rotation skipped as he battles a problem with his right index finger, which team trainers told him was a case of tendinitis. The root of the problem has been Lidle's splitter, which forces him to dig the ball between his index and middle fingers. "The way my finger bends backwards, it started getting a little sore," Lidle said. "It got to the point where it was bothering me [more] than usual." "He was a little reluctant to talk about it," Joe Torre said. "We talked about just the inconsistency of his last couple starts, and that's a big pitch for him. He had trouble locating ... I'm not saying it's the whole thing, but it's reasonable to think it had something to do with it." Lidle has been hit hard in each of his past two starts, allowing a combined 10 runs over 5 2/3 innings against Baltimore and Tampa Bay. He said the finger has been bothering him for the past three or four starts, but it has gotten worse with each start. "I tried to throw the sinker the same as I would if I wasn't hurting, but it's not the same," Lidle said. "I throw that splitty and it's bouncing way too early, they're not swinging at it. I haven't been striking anyone out. It's affecting the way I locate my fastball." Torre knew that Lidle was receiving treatment for the problem, but wasn't sure if it was something he routinely gets or whether it was a new problem. Torre said that Lidle would be skipped this time through the rotation, but he didn't know what would happen the next time around. "The last couple games, at least two, I haven't been able to throw strikes," Lidle said. "I just figured, with the position the team is in, the extra personnel and everything, it's as good a time as any. I want to be ready for the postseason, so there's no reason not to try to get this resolved." Darrell Rasner, who earned the win on Thursday with four scoreless innings of relief, will likely get the start, his second of the season, on Monday in Toronto. Rasner, who threw just 45 pitches, will be going on three days' rest. "It will be no problem at all," said Rasner, who hadn't yet been informed if he would pitch Monday. "I'll jump at any opportunity I can get." Jeff Karstens, who started Thursday, will start on Tuesday against the Blue Jays. -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 203.67.220.75
