NEW YORK -- Three members of the 2006 Yankees filed for free agency over the
weekend, while three more are expected to do so in the coming days.

Miguel Cairo, Octavio Dotel and Craig Wilson all filed on Saturday, the first
day that players were eligible to do so.
The first day free agents can sign with new teams is Nov. 12, giving clubs a
two-week window to negotiate new contracts with their own free agents.

The contracts of Bernie Williams, Ron Villone and Tanyon Sturtze are also up,
and each player will likely file for free agency this week.
Sal Fasano and Nick Green became free agents two weeks ago, opting out of
their contracts.

Gary Sheffield, Mike Mussina and Jaret Wright may hit the free-agent market
as well, as each player has an unresolved option.
The Yankees are expected to pick up Sheffield's $13 million option, which
would likely be a precursor to a trade.

Mussina's $17 million option is expected to be bought out for $1.5 million,
but the team could sign him at a lower price.
Wright, who is signed for $7 million in 2007, can be bought out for $4
million, which would make him a free agent.
