BALTIMORE, June 3 — As he left the Yankees' clubhouse after a 6-5 victory
against the Orioles on Saturday, Alex Rodriguez wore a pink shirt emblazoned
with a movie title: "House of the Dead."

The humor was macabre and certainly appropriate. Rodriguez had just missed
his second consecutive game with a stomach virus. 

這個幽默雖然帶點黑色，但也十分貼切。A-Rod剛剛因為腸胃的病毒感染而錯過了連續
兩場比賽。

The same bug took Jason Giambi out of the starting lineup, adding to a
growing list of the ill and the injured.

And, despite all that, the Yankees are very much alive. They just keep on
winning. 

儘管如此，洋基隊依舊生龍活虎，簡而言之，就是一直贏。

Saturday's finish included Johnny Damon hitting a bases-empty home run in
the top of the 10th inning and Chien-Ming Wang, normally a starter,
recording a save in place of the injured Mariano Rivera.

週六這場的結局裡，包括了Johnny Damon在十局上半無人在壘時的全壘打，還有向來
多為先發投手的王建民，取代了受傷的Mariano Rivera，上場取得了一次救援成功。

It was their seventh victory in their last eight games and their ninth in their
past 11. So many good things happened that it might spoil the mood to note
that they squandered a first-rate starting performance by Randy Johnson,
who left with a 5-3 lead in the eighth.

這場勝利是他們前八場的第七勝，也是近十一場的第9勝。這許許多多的好事，可能會
讓人不想去追究他們搞砸Randy Johnson的水準演出的這件事，大個兒在第八局的時
候退場，當時還以5比3領先。

"These guys are just not in a quit mode," Manager Joe Torre said. "There's a
lot going on that has been terrific."

First baseman Andy Phillips, who was not in the picture until left
fielder Hideki Matsui and right fielder Gary Sheffield were put on the
disabled list with serious wrist injuries, hit a home run Saturday. Like
Melky Cabrera in left field, Phillips has answered the challenge of the
vacancies to earn a regular job, at least for now. 

一壘手～Andy Phillips在週六擊出一隻全壘打，原本不在(洋基)所構想的輪廓裡，
直到外野的左右護法～松井秀喜與Gary Sheffield因為嚴重的手腕傷害，被放到傷兵
名單之後，他的機會來了，就跟左外野的Melky Cabrera一樣，成功地達成挑戰並贏得
持續出賽的機會，至少到目前為止是這樣。

"I feel like we're playing strangers every day," Torre said. 

Torre說：「感覺好像每天都在用陌生人上場打球」

Phillips, who has 10 hits in his past 21 at-bats, said, "Guys are coming
through." He also said Rivera and Wang joked about switching roles.

存活下來」 他還提到Rivera跟王建民對互換角色這件事彼此調侃。

Another newcomer who contributed was Kevin Thompson, who had an infield
hit and made the final putout on a fly ball to right field in his first game
in the major leagues. "Don't drop it!" Thompson said he told himself on the
last fly ball before a capacity crowd of 48,195 at Camden Yards. 

另一個有貢獻的新人～Kevin Thompson，在他大聯盟生涯的第一場球賽，擊出了一支內
野安打，還把球賽最後的一個出局數，成功地在右外野接殺了那顆飛球。
『不要掉、不要掉、不要掉』
Thompson在處理最後一顆飛球時，在Camden Yards全場多達48195人的面前，告訴自己這

Among the veterans who helped was Bernie Williams, who had three runs
batted in as the designated hitter in place of Giambi, and Damon, who had 3
of the team's 13 hits. 

在老鳥們裡，Bernie Williams取代Giambi成為DH，打下了三分打點，而Damon則打出全
隊13支安打中的3支。

"That might be my best swing in my 12-year career," Damon said of his leadoff
home run against reliever Chris Ray (1-2) off a fastball on a 1-1 count.
Damon said it was not a bad pitch, but the ball carried over the fence in center
field for his seventh home run of the season. 

Damon說:「那可能是我12年生涯裡最棒的揮擊」，他抓住救援投手Chris Ray(1-2)的快
速球，擊出leadoff全壘打，當時是一好一壞。

The victory went to Scott Proctor (2-1), the relief pitcher who seemed to be
the least happy man in the clubhouse. He was displeased partly because he had
entered the game in relief of Johnson with a 5-3 lead and a man on first in the
eighth.

勝利投手落在Scott Protor(2-1)手上，這位救援投手看起來是球員休息室裡最不高興
的人，他不爽的原因有一部份是因為他在第八局五比三時，上場來解救大個兒以及處理

Proctor gave up two runs on doubles by Ramon Hernandez, who had three
hits and three R.B.I., and Miguel Tejada, who had three hits and two R.B.I.
Proctor finished the eighth and worked a scoreless ninth but was perplexed
when he took the mound for the 10th inning.

Proctor被Ramon Hernandez敲出二壘安打，並且掉了兩分，Ramon這場打了三支安打
跟三分打點，Miguel Tejada也敲了三支安打跟兩分打點。

As he waited for catcher Jorge Posada, Proctor was surprised by Mike Myers,
who arrived from the bullpen to relieve him. Torre said he heard someone
shout, "Two guys are coming in!"

當他等著捕手Jorge Posada時，Proctor竟然看到Mike Myers從牛棚裡走來，要接下他

He looked to the bullpen to make sure it was not Wang, who had thrown 73
pitches as a starter two nights before in Detroit. He wanted only Wang after
Myers pitched to Brian Roberts, retiring him on a lineout.

他看了看牛棚之後，確認另一個人不是王建民，王建民兩天前才在底特律以先發投手的
身份投了73球。他要Myers先面對Brian Roberts，解決掉他之後，再讓王建民上。

When Proctor left the mound for the awkward walk to the dugout, Torre took
the blame and shared it with Ron Guidry, the pitching coach. "Gator and I
were so busy, neither of us told him," Torre said, referring to Proctor's
planned removal. Proctor did not want to elaborate afterward. "That's over
and done with," he said. "We won the game."

當Proctor走下投手丘，拖著笨拙的腳步走回休息區，Torre把責難攬在自己跟投手教練～

Johnson did not linger for postgame interviews. Posada said Johnson pitched
well after falling behind, 3-1, in a first inning that included a two-run homer
by Hernandez. "He kept coming, he kept his demeanor," Posada said. "He
made a mistake and kept battling."

Johnson沒在賽後訪問中逗留，Posada說Johnson在第一局被Hernandez敲出兩分砲，並以

That summed up the effort of the entire team. The victory was by the same
score as Friday night's triumph. Among all the positives, it was easy to
overlook how the Yankees had left 13 men on base.

很容易讓人忽略這場洋基隊是如何留下了13個殘壘。

Damon, who arrived this season from the Red Sox, praised veterans like
Posada and Derek Jeter and also Torre for manipulating the healthy parts of
his roster. Posada mentioned that young players like Cabrera and Robinson
Cano were so eager to get on the field every day.

今年才從紅襪來洋基報到的Damon，讚揚隊上的老手們，包括Posada、Derek Jeter，
當然也有Torre，因為他把球員名單中的健康球員調配得很好。Posada提到年輕球員們，

"We are scrapping," Posada said. "It's a lot of fun to see."

Jeter, who had two more hits to raise his average to .348, was asked to reflect
on how the Yankees had put together at least 10 hits in each of their past 10
games.

"We've got a lot of people contributing," he said. "Everyone is playing their
part. That's how you find out how good a team you have. Hitting is contagious.
