The start of the game was not so promising. The Devil Rays' leadoff hitter,
Julio Lugo, singled off a looping curveball Wright has worked on with Mike
Mussina. The Mets had also hit the pitch, so Wright scrapped it. For his
off-speed pitch, he decided to try a slider he had shelved since early last
season.

That was validation for the pitching coach, Ron Guidry, who has implored
Wright to pound his fastball and use it to set up his breaking ball. Wright
is not as strong as he once was, Guidry said, but he can still succeed in
short bursts.
這也證明投手教練Ron Guidry苦口婆心要Wright以他的快速球為榮作為他變化球的後盾

"Look, I believe you can still throw your fastball by hitters in the American
League," Guidry said he told Wright. "I honestly feel, for five innings, you
can get guys out with your fastball. You'll give up home runs and you'll give
up hits, but you can throw 75 straight fastballs and get guys out.

So Wright mixed, and the Devil Rays looked confused. After a leadoff single
in the third, Wright retired the next three hitters, ending the inning by
getting Baldelli to swing on a third-strike slider.
所以Wright混合了 迷惑了魔鬼魚的打者 在第三局一上來被敲一支一壘安打後
Wright連續解決三名打者 最後用一記滑球讓Baldelli揮空三振出局
