NEW YORK — When Sidney Ponson takes the mound for the first time as a Yankee
Tuesday, instead of worrying about keeping control of his pitches, he's more
worried about keeping his excitement in check.If he was worried about anything
regarding his start against Seattle, Ponson was just hoping he wouldn't
overthrow everything.

明天是胖松身為洋基人的第一次登板，他比較擔心的並不是控球，反倒是無法控制剛簽約
的興奮之情。但如果就明天對西雅圖水手之戰來說，胖松只希望他不會把明天的比賽搞砸
。

"I'm just going to go out there and pitch as good as I can pitch and go by the
scouting report and stuff like that and go by my game plan,'' said Ponson, who
signed with the Yankees Friday after being let go by St. Louis. "If I can
execute my game plan 85-90 percent the way I want to, we have a pretty good
chance with this offense and defense to come out winning. I'm not going to
put any added pressure on me. I won't be nervous."

Ponson jumped out to a 4-0 start with a 2.92 ERA with the Cardinals, but
followed with a period of inconsistency that's been the problem throughout
his nine seasons, mostly with Baltimore. By the time the right-hander got to
the Yankees, Ponson was 4-4 with a 5.24 ERA in 14 games (13 starts).

胖松在紅雀隊一開季有著4勝0負、防禦率2.92的先發成績，但後繼乏力，而這也是他過去
九個球季 (多在金鶯隊) 的一個通病。而胖松就帶著4勝4負、5.24的防禦率(14場比賽，

Ponson has been working on some minor mechanical issues with pitching coach
Ron Guidry, but the main change has been how he approaches his bullpen work in
between starts and then taking that into games.

胖松曾和投手教練Ron Guidry討論一些問題，但比較大的變數是他如何把他在牛棚調整
的感覺用到比賽中。

While with the Cardinals, Ponson was taking it easy when throwing on the side
and then doing the same in his starts. But even though Ponson isn't a strikeout
pitcher, Guidry wanted him to throw harder in those side sessions."I used to
throw nice and easy, now I just throw it really hard for my mechanics to stay
the same," Ponson said. "I feel good. I just have to keep the ball down in the
zone and we'll see what happens."

當胖松還在紅雀隊的時候，他不管在熱身還是先發總是一派輕鬆。儘管胖松不是三振型
的投手，但投手教練Guidry還是要他加重他的投球份量。"以往我都是很輕鬆的在投球，

Guidry expressed a similar philosophy with Jaret Wright, who had a 4.86 ERA on
June 16, but is 3-1 in the five starts since with a 3.33 ERA over those 24
innings with 22 strikeouts. The Yankees hope the advice straightens out Ponson
as well because they need the 29-year-old to shore up the back end of their
rotation behind the improving Wright, and the solid front threesome of Mike
Mussina, Chien-Ming Wang and Randy Johnson.

Guidry對Jaret Wright施予同樣的投球訓練，Jaret Wright，六月的防禦率4.86，但在

"He's been down this road before. He's been on teams fighting for pennants and
stuff like that," manager Joe Torre said. "He's going to go out there and
hopefully be himself. Hopefully he can be comfortable enough to go out and do
what he needs to do."

A-ROD'S PAINFUL NIGHT
Third baseman Alex Rodriguez was already having a tough night by committing a
career-high three errors, but things got more painful when he fouled a ball off
the big toe of his left foot in the fifth inning. The swelling forced A-Rod out
of the game in the eighth as Nick Green finished up at third. He'll have X-rays
taken Tuesday morning but the injury doesn't appear serious.

"You never want to come out of the game, but I knew it was swelling up pretty
good on my last at-bat," Rodriguez said. "I felt it get a little bit worse as
the night went on."

Arod
三壘手Arod有個糟透的夜晚，他發生生涯最高的三次守備失誤，但讓他更賭爛的是，他在
五局的自打球打中他的左腳大拇指。腫脹的腳指迫使Arod出場，由Nick Green接替守備。
Arod明天早上將會去照X光，但受傷的地方未顯嚴重。

MATSUI ON THE MEND
Left fielder Hideki Matsui continues to work his way back from the fractured
left wrist he suffered May 11 in the first inning against Boston and has
remained adamant about his returning to the Yankees in August.

左外野手松井秀喜繼續在作左腕關節的復健，那是他在5月11號對紅襪隊第一局所造成的
傷。預計在8月歸隊。

That works for Torre, who says a return that soon will allow Matsui some minor
league rehab games to help get him in shape for the stretch run. If he comes
back in September, the minor league season will be just about over. "He keeps
saying he's going to be back in August and that's fine. We'll go along with
that,'' Torre said. "The thing about it is if he's back in August at that point
, if he's ready to play, we have places for him to go. He's doing great now.
He's never had a problem working hard."

Torre將會幫松井安排幾場小聯盟的比賽，以幫助他趕快進入狀況。但如果他9月份歸隊。
那時小聯盟的賽事剛好結束。"他不斷的說他8月就會歸隊，而我們也應允。"Torre說道。
"如果他真的在8月歸隊了，而且他也準備好了，我們也會讓他上場。他現在復健情形不
錯，並沒有太大的問題。"

SHEFFIELD STILL CASTED
Despite his pronouncements earlier that he would have the cast over his left
wrist removed this week, Gary Sheffield will be encased in plaster until
next week. This, however, is not a delay in his rehab. Torre said there was
just a misunderstanding between Sheffield and the doctors over when the cast
would be removed. The Yankees are still looking at a September return for
Sheffield, if he comes back at all this season.

老薛
儘管他的之前的聲明說道他這週將拆下石膏，但直到下禮拜之前，老薛還是得繼續圍繞
著石膏。然而，這不代表他的復原情況有所延遲，Torre說這僅是醫生和老薛之間的誤解

COMINGS AND GOINGS
Should Ponson falter early in his start Tuesday, the Yankees will definitely
have length out of the bullpen now that former starters Shawn Chacon and
Kris Wilson are in the mix. ... Second baseman Robinson Cano is still feeling
something in his strained left hamstring, but the Yankees hope to get him in
a minor league game by the end of the week. ... If right-handed reliever
Octavio Dotel comes through his appearance for Double-A Trenton OK, he'll make
one of two more minor league appearances before joining the Yankees.

Cano
一旦明天胖松不穩，洋基就會推上Chacon還有Wilson來幫忙救火。而二壘手Cano仍覺得
左腿筋不適，但洋基希望在這禮拜末讓他在小聯盟出賽..大概在Dotel在2A出場的那場
比賽，會讓Cano在歸隊之前作些調整。
