The mailbag returns after a three-week hiatus, as the All-Star Game pushed us back a week longer than normal. What did that mean? A whole extra week of mail bashing everyone's favorite punching bag, Alex Rodriguez, of course! The sheer volume of mail on the subject of A-Rod amazes me, but what amazed me more was that there seemed to be an equal amount of mail between the supporters and the haters. It seems like A-Rod has his share of fans out there, but I guess they're not the ones at the Stadium who are booing him with every at-bat or error. Naturally, we'll kick this week's mailbag off with A-Rod and move on from there. Honestly, could we have it any other way? I hate to say it, but A-Rod hasn't been hitting like A-Rod and his defense is terrible. He committed three errors against Seattle and his error against the Blue Jays was a critical reason the Yankees lost. I don't think it's right for Yankees fans to boo him, but it's been really tough watching him play. I know he's "A-Rod" but do you think the Yankees will think about trading him for prospects? --C.C., New York Can someone put me at ease and let me know that there is no chance the Yankees will trade A-Rod? I hear all the rumors and it is starting to get disturbing. I have been a Yankees fan for 30 years, good times and bad, and if A-Rod is traded I could see myself losing interest in the team. I will still follow the true Yankees, Jeter, Posada, Mariano and Bernie but to think that the Yankees will trade away the best player in baseball, I don't think I could handle it. -- Ray W., Rochester, N.Y. C.C., Ray, as well as the rest of you who e-mailed me questions about the possibility of Alex getting traded, let me put this in the simplest terms I can. It is not going to happen. I'm not arrogant enough to say that it will never happen, but I would bet just about anything that it won't happen this season. I have several reasons for this opinion, and here they are: 1) He is still one of the best players in the game. If the Yankees were looking to deal him, especially during his current struggles, they would not get fair value back for him. Besides, what is fair value for a two-time MVP who has 450 homers and 2,000 hits before his 31st birthday? Other than getting Albert Pujols (which won't happen) or Johan Santana AND Francisco Liriano (which won't happen), I can't think of another deal I would take. Yes, he's struggling right now. But I don't believe that he can't handle the pressure of New York. He won the AL MVP award last year playing in the same uniform and in the same stadium in front of the same fans. 2) He has a no-trade clause. Like it or not, Rodriguez can veto any trade that is brought to him, and being as aware of his own image as he is, I find it hard to believe that he would waive his no-trade. That would be an admission that he can't handle what's going on in New York, and I don't see that happening. 3) Who would take his salary? There are only two or three teams that would take on the $16 million a year the Yankees owe him (assuming that they would throw in the money Texas gave them to take him in 2004, that is ... otherwise, it's $25 million per season), and two of those teams are the Mets and Red Sox. Do you think the Yanks would deal A-Rod to either of them? I think not. The bottom line here is that he's not getting traded this year. Whether you like it or not, that's the way it is. I have been wondering if the Yankees are still interested in Barry Zito or Dontrelle Willis. Do you think we may see one or both of them in pinstripes by the trade deadline? -- Tyler R., Bradenton, Fla. The only way you'll see Zito in pinstripes this season is if the A's add them to their uniforms. As for Willis, the Marlins DO have pinstripes on their home uniforms, so you will see him wearing them during his next home start. Seriously, why would either of these teams trade either of these pitchers? The A's are in a heated race for first place in the AL West, while the Marlins have an outside shot at the NL Wild Card. And even if Florida doesn't make a serious run at the postseason, they have seen enough from their young players to believe they can contend in a year or two. Why would they deal their 25-year-old ace? Neither of these players gets moved by the deadline. Do you see the Yanks signing either Alfonso Soriano or Zito -- or both -- next offseason? -- Kippy B., Alta Loma, Calif. Ah, now this is a different question altogether. Yes, I believe that Zito has a good chance to be a part of the rotation next season and beyond, though I'm sure there will be stiff competition for his services. As for Soriano, it is possible that he would return to the Bronx, but I think he will choose to sign somewhere to play second base. If he were to sign with the Yankees, it would have to be as an outfielder. I'd say Zito is much more likely to become a Yankee than Soriano next winter.
Amophis:1.可以交易的人沒有可以跟他相提並論, 可以相比的拿不到人 07/26 03:33
Amophis:2.他有no-trade 除非他自己想放棄當Yankees 07/26 03:33
Amophis:3.
