The second-year pitcher from Taiwan has emerged as a force in the Yankees'
rotation, thanks to a sinker that manufactures ground balls and double plays.
Wang takes a 13-4 record and a 3.58 ERA into his start on the road against the
White Sox tonight.

小王，這位來自台灣的二年級投手拜伸卡球造成大量滾地球以及雙殺之賜，已在洋基的先
發投手群中展露頭角。而今晚他要帶著13勝4負，3.58的防禦率在客場出戰白襪。

Wang was 8-5 with a 4.02 ERA last year even though he missed two months because
of a shoulder injury. Despite his quiet nature, or perhaps because of it, Wang
quickly has become a favorite among his teammates.

小王去年雖因肩傷休息了兩個多月，但還是有著8勝5敗，4.02的防禦率。小王生性單純，
但也許正因如此，他馬上就成為隊友的最愛。

"That's my man, Wang," Jeter said with a smile. "We're teaching him English.
He's got a great personality and he's got a great sense of humor."

Jeter笑著說:"小王是我的好哥們阿""我們有在教他英文，他的個性很好，而且他也很搞笑
。"
"Everybody in here is nice," Wang said.

小王說:"這裡每個人都很好。"

"Everybody knows what he means to the club," pitching coach Ron Guidry said.
"They look at him in a little different light. He's pretty much one of our best
pitchers."

Guidry說:"每個人都知道小王對球隊的重要性。""雖然每個人對他在球隊重要性的看法
上有些差異，但毫無疑問的他絕對是我們陣中最好的投手之一。"

At home, Wang is the Yankees' best pitcher, with a 9-1 record and a 2.66 ERA.
The road has been a somewhat different story, as he is 4-3 with a 4.99 ERA away
from Yankee Stadium.

在主場，小王是洋基陣中表現最佳的投手，他在主場有著9勝1負、2.66的防禦率。但客場
的他就有些不同了，他在客場的成績為4勝3負，防禦率4.99。

At times on the road, Wang's sinker hasn't worked quite as well, which is just
another reason why Guidry wants to see him develop other go-to pitches as well.

每當在客場出戰的時候，小王拿手的伸卡球投的並不像在主場這樣好，而這也是Guidry希
望小王能多練其他球種的原因。

"There will be times," Guidry said, "where he won't have the nasty sinker or
[on] any one particular day he might struggle with it. If he can't master those
other pitches, and has to rely on one thing, they'll hit it."

Guidry說:"總有一天他的伸卡球會不再犀利，而等到那時候，他將會投的很辛苦。如果他
不精熟其他球種的話，那之後就大概只有被打爆的份了。"

Yet Guidry has no doubt Wang will improve his entire repertoire.

而Guidry深信小王能把其他球種練好。

"He'll eventually get to that point," Guidry said. "That's how good he is."

Guidry說:"小王最後一定能夠練好其他球種的，因為他就是這麼棒。"

After all, he has been able to master a pitch that he never threw until he was
in the Yankees' organization.

Guidry此言不假，畢竟小王之前在農場從未投過伸卡球，但他還是能夠把它學起來。

Wang said it took him one month to learn to throw the sinker when he was in the
minors, but feels more confident in it this season than he ever has.

小王說他在農場的時候花了一個月學好伸卡球，而本季是他對他的伸卡球感到最有信心的
一個球季。

"I think I'm better at throwing it than last year," Wang said. "Before, I had a
finger problem. The skin was too soft."

小王說:"我覺得我的伸卡球比去年投的還要好。""之前我手指皮膚太嫩，常常起水泡。"

But now the fingers on his right hand have developed calluses, which make it
easier to throw the sinker, as well as make Wang less susceptible to blisters.

但現在他的右手手指已有些繭，這讓他較少長水泡，同時這也讓他投伸卡球投的更加得心
應手。

But this easygoing pitcher has a competitive streak as tough as his skin,
something Guidry has learned. Wang pitched eight shutout innings Wednesday
against Toronto, running his scoreless-innings streak to 18. But because he had
thrown 104 pitches, Guidry told him after the eighth inning that he was done
for the night.

然而這位隨和的投手卻有著像他手指上的繭一般堅硬無比的好勝心，而Guidry早已領教過
。小王在禮拜三對藍鳥投了8局無失分的比賽，讓他的連續無失分局數來到了18局，但因為
他已經投了104球了，所以Guidry便叫他投完第八局就好了。

"He doesn't like to be taken out of a game," Guidry said. "He always asks to go
back out. If he'd had 85-90 pitches, I would've let him go back out. I know he
didn't like it then, but it was forgotten by the next day."

Guidry說:"他根本不想被換下來，他老是要求要投下去。""如果今天他到第八局投球數只
有85到90球的話，我才會讓他繼續投下去。我知道這孩子當下心理可能會不好受，但隔一
天就好啦。"

Manager Joe Torre said that Wang "never really changes his demeanor. He just
goes about his business. You can tell him he's pitching next Tuesday and he'll
say, 'fine.' "

Torre說小王總是保持他一貫的調調，做好份內的事，從未改變過。Torre說:"你如果跟他
說下禮拜二你先發喔，他一定會說:"好"，他就是這樣。"

"I hope it never changes," Guidry said of Wang's placid outlook, "because that
will help him in the long run. All he wants to do is pitch."

Guidry提到小王的未來時，他說:"我希望他能一直保持這種調調下去，因為這樣才可以使
他在大聯盟走的長遠。"
