Yanks send Wang to mound vs. Halos
Los Angeles (60-57) at New York (68-45), 1:05 p.m. ET
The Yankees and Angels will send their established veterans to the hill Monday,
but Sunday's matchup between Angels rookie Jered Weaver and Yankees' second-
year hurler Chien-Ming Wang could be the best of the four-game series.
Weaver is still unbeaten at 7-0 this season and touts a miniscule 2.20 ERA.
Wang has been nothing short of spectacular for the Yankees with a 13-4 record
and a 3.69 ERA.
But for as much success as each pitcher has had this season, they're each
coming off perhaps their worst outing of the year.
Wang had won five straight games before getting a no decision in his last
start Aug. 8 against the White Sox. He allowed four earned runs in five
innings and saw his 19-inning scoreless streak end.
Weaver allowed four runs on six hits in 5 2/3 innings against Cleveland in
his last start. After winning his first seven starts, Weaver has recorded
three straight no-decisions while posting a 4.92 ERA.
The Angels and Yankees have split the first two games of the series as the
Yankees won 5-2 Saturday.
Pitching matchup
LAA: RHP Jered Weaver (7-0, 2.20 ERA)
The Angels rookie has cooled down a bit lately after winning his first seven
starts. He has never faced the Yankees.
NYY: RHP Chien-Ming Wang (13-4, 3.69 ERA)
Wang has only faced the Angels once, last year in the American League Division
Series, in which he got the loss after allowing four runs (one earned) in
6 1/3 innings.
