NEW YORK — The possibility of Carl Pavano returning to the Yankees this season has been erased. In fact, according to Brian Cashman, the right-hander won't even appear in a minor-league game. Team Physician, Dr. Stuart Hershon, performed the examination in New York, and along with Cashman, the two made the decision to keep Pavano off the mound for the next two weeks. But according to the GM, if it were up to Pavano, the right-hander would take the ball, even with two broken ribs. "He wants to pitch through it," Cashman said. "He doesn't think it's something he can't deal with...he's been dealing with it. I am choosing not to allow that until he can be free and easy, because I don't need this to go into something else...one problem causing another problem. "We have two years left invested and I don't want to be emotional. And because there's frustration involved, I don't want to say, 'You're going to have to fight through it.' Especially with pitching, everything is connected and I don't want any issues coming up." Cashman refused to predict whether Pavano would return to the Yankees this year, but with only one month left in the regular-season, it seems unlikely, because Pavano's throwing motion is cut off on his release. Pavano, who before his Aug. 15 car accident, was days away from joining the major-league club, is likely to stay on the disabled list. He is however eligible to make the postseason roster, but that seems highly unlikely as well, given that Pavano hasn't pitched in a major league game since June 27, 2005. "I'm not saying he won't pitch for us this year, but I'm not saying he will either," Cashman said. "We'll just have to wait and see. But I don't want to make a mistake by having him toe the rubber and obviously have a shoulder or an elbow (injury) develop as we try to push through something like this." "I'm not saying he won't pitch for us this year, but I'm not saying he will either," Cashman said. "We'll just have to wait and see. But I don't want to make a mistake by having him toe the rubber and obviously have a shoulder or an elbow (injury) develop as we try to push through something like this." "At this stage, I'm saying no," Cashman said. "I want him to help us at some point and I wish it could be in '06. I have two years left and he has two years left to salvage it and make good. It just makes no sense to jeopardize anything going forward because of the emotions of the moment. "My job is to be objective at all times. And if you start to get emotional and let emotions get into your decision process you're gong to start making mistakes," Cashman continued. "I know this is the right call. It might not be popular within any aspect of this organization including that clubhouse, but I take our players' health first and foremost so we're going to wait this thing out." Cashman denied any conversations or ideas about voiding the last two years of Pavano's contract where he is owed nearly $20-million. The GM and his team of unknown employees have not yet begun investigating the details of Pavano's car accident and no fine has been determined as of yet. Cashman is not anticipating finding anything contradictory to what Pavano has already told him about the incident. However, the GM will still obtain the police report and find the remaining facts needed to obtain a clearer picture of what exactly happened. Cashman doesn't believe Pavano has lied or exaggerated any details of the incident and doesn't think the right-hander broke his two ribs in a different manner than a car crash. "If there's something for us that's worth disciplining, we're going to pursue that, there's no doubt about that," Cashman said. "But the first thing for me is to assess the health of this player. I have not dealt with central baseball, I have dealt with doctors for two days." Pavano faces a bigger obstacle than the big-league mound when he returns to the Yankee Stadium clubhouse. There is little chance the 25 men on the current roster will give Pavano a warm-welcome, a situation both Cashman and Torre are well aware of. While Pavano said via conference call on Monday he wasn't concerned about the way he's received, he may feel differently when he sees the six full-size New York Post pages reading, "COLLISION COURSE" AND "CRASH DUMMY" hanging in his locker. "He's been with this team for two years and he's been unable to assist us or help us for legitimate reasons," Cashman said. "But hiding injuries loses credibility and loses respect and clearly he has a mountain to climb to get back into the fold." However, outside of the clubhouse, if Pavano is looking for an ally, the man who signed his deal has surely got his back. "When a guy pulls a bone chip the size of a marble out, I don't know any other guys who can pitch with the same thing. And when I send him to a back doctor out in L.A., Dr. Watkins says he can't pitch off a mound for six weeks. That's not from Carl Pavano, that's from a specialist. I don't need him to convince me because I have Dr. (Robert) Watkins, Dr. (James) Andrews and now we have two broken ribs to prove this. "I know he wants to pitch here. I know when he's healthy he can be a major league pitcher. He hasn't been healthy. That sucks. And it sucks for us because we're getting the short end of the stick here. But you have to stay objective." 因為小弟我不夠資深,所以只好po在這個,不知道那位大大可好心轉到yankness版 也給各位鄉民看看病夫的發展!呀!撞到垃圾車了!慘了!
