Scouting Report:
Shields got roughed up in his last outing Friday night against the A's when
he allowed six runs on seven hits and four walks in 3 2/3 innings for his
seventh loss of the season. The big blow came when he surrendered a grand
slam to Nick Swisher. Shields is 0-1 with a 5.14 ERA at Yankee Stadium, which
is his lone appearance against the Yankees.
Karstens, called up to the Majors for the first time last month to make an
emergency start, has been surprisingly effective. He has struck out only
seven batters in 23 2/3 innings, but he's also walked only seven and yielded
19 hits. He pitched five strong innings in relief, allowing one run on one
hit, in a loss at Baltimore on Sept. 8.

Scouting Report:
Beckett has just one win in his last nine starts, but has kept the Red Sox in
games for the majority of his last few outings. The right-hander went eight
innings and allowed four runs against the Royals in his last start, a
no-decision. Beckett has struggled against the Yankees this season, going 1-2
with a 12.21 ERA in three outings.
Wang looks to cement his status as a Cy Young Award contender, taking the
mound in search of his 18th victory. The right-hander tossed 7 1/3 innings of
one-run ball in his last start, defeating Baltimore to win his fourth
straight decision. Wang has won nine of his last 10 decisions, posting a 2.43
ERA in his last five starts.
