Jeter wins second straight Gold Glove
Shortstop lone Yankees winner; A-Rod beaten out by Chavez

NEW YORK -- It took Derek Jeter nine years to capture his first Gold Glove
Award. He didn't have to wait nearly as long to win his second. 
Jeter花了9年才拿到他第一座金手套獎，不過很快的他又拿到了第二座。

Jeter was awarded his second consecutive Rawlings Gold Glove on Tuesday,
adding another piece of hardware to his impressive trophy case.

Last season, Jeter became the first Yankees shortstop to win the award,
giving the Bombers a Gold Glover at every position in their history.

"I know I said it last year, but winning the Gold Glove -- for the second
consecutive season -- is extremely gratifying," said Jeter in a statement
released by the club. "Defense usually doesn't make many headlines, but it
goes a long way toward winning baseball games.

The Yankees have now had 20 players win a total of 56 Gold Glove Awards, led
by Don Mattingly's 10 at first base.

"I'm very proud of Derek Jeter," said George Steinbrenner, speaking through
his publicist, Howard Rubenstein. "He's a great leader and a great captain,
and he deserves every honor he wins. He truly works hard for the Yankees and
for our fans."

Jeter's .979 fielding percentage was the third highest of his career,
trailing only the .986 he posted in 1998 and .981 from 2004. The shortstop
committed 15 errors, two more than last season.

The Angels' Orlando Cabrera was the only shortstop with a better fielding
percentage (.988) and fewer errors (seven) than Jeter.

But Jeter had 454 assists this season, his highest total since 1997, when he
had 455. Last season, Jeter collected 392 assists. Cabrera had 347, 107 fewer
than Jeter. Only Baltimore's Miguel Tejada (479) had more assists than Jeter.

Alex Rodriguez, a two-time Gold Glover at shortstop, did not win his first
award as a third baseman, as the voters chose Oakland's Eric Chavez, who has
now captured five straight Gold Gloves.
A-Rod這位兩度金手套游擊手，還沒有為他的三壘手生涯贏得第一座金手套，因為那些持
有選票的人選了運動家的 Eric Chavez，他已經連續五年獲獎。

The other winners in the American League were Texas' Kenny Rogers and Mark
Teixeira, Boston's Jason Varitek, Toronto's Orlando Hudson and Vernon Wells,
Seattle's Ichiro Suzuki and Minnesota's Torii Hunter.

Rawlings established the Gold Glove Award to recognize the best fielders at
each position. Managers and coaches of each team vote for the best defensive
players in their league, excluding their own team.

The first Rawlings Gold Gloves were awarded to one player at each position
across both leagues in 1957. Since 1958, the award has been presented
annually to a lineup of nine players for both the American and National
leagues.
