Venezuela Winter League
RHP Francisco Butto -- In his last three regular-season appearances at the end
of December, Butto gave up three runs over 3 1/3 innings to raise his ERA to 4.
81 in 26 appearances. He gave up one run on two hits on Dec. 22, during his fou
rth loss of the season, but rebounded a week later by picking up his 14th save
with a 1-2-3 inning. In the Tigres' one playoff win thus far, Butto struck out
two in a shutout frame to earn the victory over the Aguilas on Tuesday.
2B Carlos Mendoza -- In seven games between Dec. 20-28, Mendoza went 7-for-25 (
.280) and scored four runs to give him a .292 average with the Tiburones, who w
ere eliminated from playoff contention.
C Raul Chavez -- Since the Yankees signed Chavez to a Minor League contract on
Tuesday, the veteran catcher saw his batting average dip from .338 to .275 in 1
6 games. Since Dec. 20, he's 2-for-13 for the Navegantes del Magallanes.
RHP Gerardo Casadiego -- Casadiego ended his regular season with the Tiburones
on a high note. After having his 15-inning scoreless streak snapped on Dec. 17,
he gave up another run over 2 1/3 innings on Dec. 22 before shutting out oppon
ents for the next 3 2/3 frames. He finished 4-2 with a 2.01 ERA.
3B Marcos Vechionacci -- In his last nine at-bats of the regular season, Vechio
nacci collected four hits to finish with a .292 average in 24 at-bats. The thir
d baseman didn't appear in the Navegantes' 4-3 playoff win over the Leones.
Dominican Winter League
RHP Erick Abreu -- Abreu's regular-season ERA stood at 2.02 through Dec. 20.
RHP Edwar Ramirez -- Ramirez had a 5.09 regular-season ERA through Dec. 20 but
has yet to pitch in the playoffs for the Tigres del Licey (3-3).
RHP Bryan Villalona -- Villalona finished with a 7.24 ERA over 13 2/3 innings f
or the Leones del Escogido, who fell out of playoff contention.
Mexican Winter League
SS Ramiro Pena -- Pena made just one pinch-hitting appearance since Dec. 20, bu
t it was with runners in scoring position and he made it count. The shortstop b
atted .221 in 68 at-bats with the Tomateros de Culiacan.
