"If our staff goes out there healthy and pitches, we're going to be good,"

"I think [Pavano] has to do his job and kind of be a new guy again. That's
the best way to put it. He's been away a long time. There were periods of
time when he got real close, and everybody thought he was going to come back,
and he didn't.
"He's got to earn some trust from some players again, and from the coaching
staff and the manager and the organization. If he can do it, we know he can
pitch and we know he can get people out. If he gets over those hurdles, he'll
be an asset."
至於RJ
"I just think that the expectations that New York posed with the Yankees --
all the media coverage -- the expectations are large and high. Randy's name
is synonymous with 15 strikeouts and 20 wins and Cy Young Awards and all this
stuff.
When you put on the pinstripes, you're expected to do that 35 times a year.
Realistically, that's not possible, but you can't fight it either. You have
to roll with it and expect to do well. I just think he got a bad taste in his
mouth."

"There are a bunch of factors to consider, We think of him as a long-term
high-end starter for the Yankees, so we don't want to sacrifice the long term
for a short-term need.
Admittedly, that's hard to do with our franchise and our city, but we're
going to do the best we can to protect him over the long run. At some point,
he'll be turned loose just like everybody else."
Eric Duncan
The team still expects good things from Eric Duncan, who will play 90 percent
of his time this year at first base.
“He’s a young, young guy, and I think expectations play on a lot of kids
who are high draft choices. I think he’s got a real good chance of
overcoming all of that.”
Jesus Montero
Despite some expert opinions, the Yankees are extremely high on 16-year-old
catcher Jesus Montero. Newman said that Montero has “huge power, a great arm
and he can catch the ball,” adding that the Yankees have never signed a
Latin player with his kind of power.
Jose Tabata
Jose Tabata’s numbers in the South Atlantic League last year (.298, 5 HR, 51
RBI, 16 SB, 50 R in 86 games) were remarkably similar to those of Derek Jeter
in 1993 (.295, 5 HR, 71 RBI, 18 SB, 85 R in 128 games) … and Tabata is a
year younger than Jeter was at that time.
“At this point in his career, he’s hit as well as anybody we’ve had. He’s
very similar to Derek at that age.”
