事情過了四個月...今天就來看看那時候執行option後交易的八卦內幕...
接連兩則跟Sheffield還有紅襪有關的新聞...
既然我們已經是旁觀者了...那就開心來看這齣連續戲唄...



Imagine a lineup with Manny Ramirez, David Ortiz and Gary Sheffield?

That's what might have been had the Yankees not picked up the option season on
Gary Sheffield's contract. Sheffield told the Globe that Boston would have
been his first choice and was dreaming of being in the middle of the Sox
lineup. Obviously the Yankees knew it, picked up the option and traded
Sheffield to Detroit. Read more about it in the Sunday baseball notes.

第一集...

大意是說...如果洋基在這個off-season沒有執行Sheffield的option...
Sheffield原本打算要去紅襪的...這讓中心打線變成Manny Ortiz Sheff(摩斯連線?)
洋基也知道這件事情...於是執行了Sheffield的option...然後再把他交易到老虎...



Sheffield gave Terry Francona a big hug when he saw him earlier in the morning
and Francona spoke glowingly about Sheffield dueling his pre-game press
conference. Francona said the single most impactful made by an American League
team was the Tigers signing Sheffield.

"You make a pitch to his neck and he's not going anywhere," Francona said.
"He's fearless."

Sheffield will spend most of his time DHing, but he will play the outfield
occasionally.

今天是熱身賽的第10天...老虎跟紅襪碰頭了...
到了球場Sheffield給了Francona一個抱抱...賽前的記者會還講了些恭維的話...

結果...這篇新聞才剛發稿沒多久...比賽就出了狀況...



With one out in the fifth, Tigers closer Todd Jones was tossed by home plate
umpire Larry Vanover after he threw one pitch tight to J.D. Drew and the other
behind him.

Jones appeared to be responding to Sox starter Josh Beckett hitting both Gary
Sheffield (shoulder) and Magglio Ordonez (helmet) with pitches. Ordonez had to
come out of the game, though he was hit with a breaking pitch.

第三集...

第五局一人出局...老虎投手Todd Jones對紅襪的J.D. Drew投了顆近身球...
因為先前紅襪的Josh Beckett就把球砸到Sheffield的肩膀跟Ordonez的頭盔...
後來就推擠成一團了...No Punches; Just Pushing and Shoving...

Sheffield never felt hated by Red Sox fans.

"I never got that sense," he said. "Even when I was out in public, Boston
fans would say, 'Why are you hanging out with Jeter?' And Jeter would say,
'Man, when we go out in Boston, no one messes with Gary. Everybody's always
talking good about Gary.' I used to wonder why, too. Maybe it's the style of
play or something else, but I always sensed the respect factor, even when I
came to the plate."
