The New York Times By TYLER KEPNER Published: March 12, 2007 YANKEES RENEW WANG’S CONTRACT The Yankees renewed the contract of starter Chien-Ming Wang for $489,000 on Sunday. The Yankees had offered more than $500,000, but Wang asked for more than that and was renewed at the lower price. Robinson Cano, Scott Proctor and Melky Cabrera agreed to one-year deals. None of the four players were eligible for salary arbitration. They will cost the Yankees less than $2 million combined this season. “We need to have more guys like that,” General Manager Brian Cashman said. “That’s the method to the madness, to have as many good, young players you can under your control rather than having veterans for a high amount of money that you’re doling out until their twilight years.” Wang allowed one run in four innings Sunday and said he felt tightness in his right wrist. Cashman and Joe Torre said they were unaware of the condition, and Wang said it would not require treatment. -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 59.104.226.149
