Yanks, Jays opener rained out
By Bryan Hoch / MLB.com
NEW YORK -- Wednesday's game between the Yankees and the Blue Jays was
postponed due to a forecast of poor weather conditions. No makeup date has
been announced.
"With what the forecast was, the last thing we wanted to do was have one of
those stop-start jobs," manager Joe Torre said. "That's always a concern for
both clubs."
The rainout allowed the Yankees to shuffle their pitching rotation leading
into this weekend's series with the Red Sox.
Andy Pettitte was to have pitched on Wednesday against Toronto but will
instead pitch on Friday, having been instructed to perform extra work in the
weight room and some throwing following the washout. Top prospect Phil Hughes
is still slated to make his Major League debut on Thursday.
The Yankees have listed their starting pitcher for Saturday against Boston as
"to be announced," though Torre said that the team would decide between
left-hander Kei Igawa and right-hander Jeff Karstens in a move to be made
official on Thursday. Right-hander Chien-Ming Wang is still lined up to pitch
on Sunday against Boston.
Fans holding paid tickets for Wednesday's postponed game may use them for the
rescheduled game between the Yankees and Blue Jays (date and time to be
announced) or may exchange them for any regular-season game at Yankee Stadium
within 12 months (subject to availability).
Tickets can only be exchanged at Yankee Stadium Advance Ticket Windows (open
Monday through Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Sunday from 10:00 a.m.
to 4:00 p.m., and until the seventh inning of any regularly scheduled home
game).
Complimentary tickets or equivalent tickets bear no cash value and cannot be
exchanged or redeemed for any benefits that may be offered to ticket(s) with
a dollar value.
