BY KRISTIE ACKERT DAILY NEWS SPORTS WRITER Wednesday, May 9th 2007, 4:00 AM Perhaps the best indication of the grandiosity of Alex Rodriguez's first-month power display came in the two weeks that elapsed between his home runs - and the sizable distance by which he is still lapping the field in the American League. A-Rod belted his ML-leading 15th homer of the season, but first in 47 at-bats since April 23, in the Yankees' 8-1 victory last night over Texas. All that April power finally brought a towering May blast. "That was big. He hadn't hit one in awhile," Joe Torre said after the Yanks finally provided enough run support for Andy Pettitte to earn his second victory of the season. "Alex got a couple of base hits hitting the ball hard straightaway. That's really the key, having him stay in there. That's where he was going all last month." Rodriguez, who also leads the majors with 39 RBI, belted 14 homers in April to tie the record for the season-opening month, equalling the number Albert Pujols achieved last season. But A-Rod had gone 12 games without going deep since his two-homer game in a 10-8 loss April 23 in Tampa, until he clocked Mike Wood's 0-1 pitch for a two-run shot to right-center in the fifth inning last night to extend the Yankees' lead to 6-1. "I've been about six inches off, reaching a little bit, but I was a little more patient tonight and let the ball travel a little more," said Rodriguez, who also singled, walked and was hit by a pitch in five plate appearances. "This season's six months. People get caught up too much in one month up or one month down." Still, Rodriguez had batted a soft .267 (12-for-45) with all three RBI during his 12-game drought coming in one game - the Yanks' 15-11 loss last Friday against Seattle. Even with that factored in, Rodriguez has averaged one homer every 8.2 at-bats this season (15 in 123 trips). By comparison, the other eight starters in last night's lineup for the Yankees - all regulars - have combined for 19 homers this season, led by Jason Giambi's five. -- "See, the problem is that God gives men a brain and a penis, and only enough blood to run one at a time." 你看, 問題就出在上帝給了男人大腦和老二, 血液卻只夠其中一個用. --Robin Williams (羅賓威廉斯) -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 140.134.212.39
