UPDATE, 7:23 P.M.:
Chien-Ming Wang is 0-2 in his last two starts against the Red Sox,
allowing seven runs in 11 innings. He and I talked for a while
yesterday about it and he hopes that using his slider and even
changeup more often will keep the Boston hitters from keying in
on his sinker. David Ortiz (9 of 20) and Manny Ramirez (10 of 16)
have owned him.

Meanwhile, that’s the first time I can remember Boston playing
that much of a shift against Matsui. He came in 7 for 40 against
Wakefield.
