Newsworthy: Torre said he was irked by a New York Daily News headline on

Saturday that implied the manager had told third baseman Alex Rodriguez to

"shut up" regarding his infamous "shout" play on Wednesday at Toronto.

In a pregame meeting with reporters on Friday at Fenway Park,

Torre acknowledged that the play -- in which Rodriguez deked Toronto

third baseman Howie Clark into letting a ninth-inning popup fall for a

run-scoring hit -- was "probably something he shouldn't have done."

But at no time, Torre said, did he tell Rodriguez to "shut up,"

and said erroneous news reports undermine his ability to earn the trust of

his players. Torre met with Rodriguez before Friday's game to inform him of

what he had told the media, and was surprised to learn that notes of a

different nature had been published in a newspaper.

但是托爺說 任何時候他都不會要Alex Rodriguez閉上他的嘴，並且他說媒體的錯誤報導

讓他與球員間的信任感降低，無法贏得球員的信任感

在星期五賽前托爺就已經與Rodriguez 談過他跟媒體

所說的內容，而對於新聞所報導與他原意背道而馳感到驚訝

"It's just misleading when the headlines in the paper are nothing close to

what I said. It's bothersome," Torre said.

托爺說：報紙上的標題不是我所要表達的原意，完全誤導了讀者，這令我非常困擾
