Scouting Report:

Yankees: Roger Clemens was scratched from his season debut with a fatigued
right groin, the club announced Saturday. Matt DeSalvo is the likely starter
in his place.

White Sox: The nation’ eyes will be focused on Garland’ mound opponent,
Clemens, on Monday night at U.S. Cellular Field, as he officially returns to
the Yankees and the Majors. But Garland will be focused on his own task at
hand, trying to bounce back from arguably his worst outing of the season.
Garland was given a 6-1 lead at the Metrodome on Wednesday afternoon, but
gave it all back by walking a season-high five batters and giving up five
hits. The White Sox lost the game, falling to 3-7 in Garland starts during
the 2007 campaign. Garland has a 1-5 record with a 3.79 ERA lifetime against
the Yankees.


Tuesday, June 5  U.S. Cellular Field | 8:11 PM ET

Scouting Report:

Yankees: Clippard heads to the mound Tuesday against the White Sox, having
outlasted Matt DeSalvo in the race to remain with the big club. Both faced
the Blue Jays at Rogers Centre, and Clippard fared better, picking up his
second Major League victory with five innings of work in a 10-5 Yankees win
Wednesday. Joe Torre has spoken often about how Clippard competes even when
he doesn't have his best stuff, but the Yankees would prefer he could
duplicate his dazzling Major League debut in the Subway Series one of these
starts.

White Sox: Mark Buehrle will try for the seventh time to get his 100th career
Major League Victory. He hasn't won since April 23 against the Royals. Since
that time, the Sox lefty has gone 0-2 with four no-decisions. That's not
because of poor pitching performances though, Buehrle has lasted at least six
innings his all but one of his 10 starts this season. He was dominating in
his last start against the Blue Jays. Buehrle allowed two runs on two hits
while striking out six and recording his second complete game of the season.
He is 1-4 with a 6.42 ERA in six career starts against the Yankees.

Chien-Ming Wang, RHP (4-4, 4.19)         Javier Vazquez, RHP (3-3, 3.95)

Scouting Report:

Yankees: Chien-Ming Wang wraps up the Yankees' 10-game road trip by pitching
the series finale against the White Sox. The right-hander needed 75 pitches
to get through his first three innings Friday but showed toughness and grit
in getting to the sixth against a Boston club that has forced him to re-think
his sinker-heavy repertoire. Wang will make his second start of the season
against the White Sox in Chicago, having beaten them with a seven-inning,
one-run performance on May 16 at U.S. Cellular Field.

White Sox: Vazquez is coming off his best start of the season. The
30-year-old righty didn't allow a run while striking out five over eight
innings against the Blue Jays. It was the first time Vazquez recorded a
victory since April 13 against the Indians and the eight innings marked his
longest outing since Sept. 5, 2006, against the Red Sox. Vazquez is 1-2 with
a 5.00 ERA in three career starts against the Yankees.

Scouting Report:

Yankees: Mussina wraps up the Yankees' 10-game road trip by pitching the last
of four games against the White Sox. Mussina once again was strained in
describing his last effort, a five-plus inning game at Fenway Park in which
he surrendered five runs, including back-to-back home runs. Nothing seems to
be working for the finicky right-hander lately, and he's been searching for
reasons why. His velocity is down, his command is off and his ERA is bloated.
It hasn't been a banner year, to put it mildly.

White Sox: Right-hander Jose Contreras rebounded from a rough start against
the Twins to throw 6 1/3 solid innings against the Blue Jays in his last
outing. Contreras left in the bottom of the seventh inning with a 3-1 lead,
only to see the bullpen cough up eight runs over the next 1 2/3 innings.
Contreras was charged with two earned runs on nine hits while striking out
two during the start. He is 2-2 with a 2.20 ERA in four career starts against
the Yankees.
