The hitters smoked Tim Wakefield for eight runs, the pitchers worked their way through several tight spots and even Joe Torre showed some atypical fire, getting ejected after arguing a call in the fifth inning. But the game took an ugly turn in the ninth, as Scott Proctor was ejected for hitting Kevin Youkilis. The benches cleared after home plate ump Brian O'Nora tossed Proctor, though no punches were thrown. The end result was a 9-5 Yankees win over the Red Sox, a victory the Bombers needed in the worst way. "We need to be a little more fiery," Torre said. "I'm not saying that's going to be my new personality, but we showed fight tonight." The win was the second in a row for the Yankees, who had lost five straight before beating Toronto Wednesday night. The deficit in the AL East is still a whopping 12-1/2 games, but the Bombers (23-29) moved within six games of the Tigers in the wild-card race. "It's definitely a great way to start June," Johnny Damon said. "This month is so important for us." Alex Rodriguez didn't escape the spotlight either, as several sections of the Fenway faithful wore masks of a blond woman, mocking his recent off-the-field saga. Rodriguez was also hounded for his "bush league" play Wednesday in Toronto, as most of the 36,785 fans screamed in unison when J.D. Drew popped a ball up to third in the second. A-Rod made the catch and flipped the ball into the stands, but the fan who caught it threw it back on the field, drawing a huge ovation. The Yankees scored three runs against Wakefield in the second, but Chien-Ming Wang (4-4) gave back two in the bottom of the inning and one in the third, moving the game to the fourth tied at 3. Wakefield's knuckleball was fluttering everywhere but over the plate, as his lack of control hurt him all night. Wakefield issued two of his six walks in the fourth and also hit A-Rod, opening up what would become a six-run inning for the Yanks. "There was a lot of energy tonight," Torre said. "These guys never quit grinding at it, which was great." The Yankees were in position to do more damage in the fifth after Bobby Abreu doubled and Melky Cabrera walked, but ump Jerry Crawford called Abreu out as he tried to steal third. Torre immediately emerged from the dugout to argue the call, which video replays showed was clearly wrong. Torre returned to the dugout, but two batters later, as Boston made a pitching change, he returned to the field, thinking that Crawford had called him out to discuss the issue further. Crawford didn't listen to much before tossing Torre from the game, but the ejection didn't stop Torre from finishing his rant before leaving the field. "I went out and asked him what he wanted," Torre said from his office chair. "We started discussing things, I got hot, he got hot and the result is I'm sitting in here. I'm sorry the whole thing happened." "I kind of liked it, to tell you the truth," Jorge Posada said of his manager's rare eruption. "It was good to see." Proctor, who started the ninth with a 9-3 lead, had a meeting on the mound with Posada before the inning began. "The way the game was going, Posada came out and said, 'Don't do anything here.' I said, 'I'm not even thinking about it,'" Proctor said. "In that situation, you're trying to get three quick outs and get out of here, especially the way we've been playing." With one out, Proctor went 2-2 against Youkilis before his next pitch sailed up and in, hitting the batter near his left shoulder. O'Nora immediately tossed Proctor, who seemed surprised by the ejection. "I can understand why Youkilis is mad. Any time you get a ball thrown at your head, I'd be (ticked) too," Proctor said. "I'm never trying to throw at anybody's head. I'm not trying to end a guy's career, and you know that's a danger zone. I never try to do that. "If I'm going to do it, I'm going to do it first pitch. Why am I going to waste four pitches to hit him? It's stupid. It's not smart baseball." Although Proctor insisted that his pitch to Youkilis was not meant to send any message, his ejection was hardly surprising. Wang hit Mike Lowell in the wrist in the third, forcing him to leave the game after the fourth. In the top of the ninth, Javier Lopez hit Robinson Cano, possibly paying the Yankees back for Lowell's drilling. Both benches cleared as Posada held Youkilis back, but there was no contact between the clubs. Proctor could face a suspension, having already served four games last month after throwing at Seattle's Yuniesky Betancourt. "The win is important, regardless of the way the game ended," Proctor said. "We won the game, we beat a really good team that's hot. We took advantage of mistakes and played good baseball." 你相信Proctor的說法嗎? 這兒有翻譯 http://www.wretch.cc/blog/SSHAN0916 -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 61.229.98.236 ※ 編輯: rresonance 來自: 61.229.98.236 (06/02 20:12)
