http://0rz.tw/a22Kn (THE JOURNAL NEWS) Clemens all set to face Mets By PETER ABRAHAM THE JOURNAL NEWS (Original publication: June 14, 2007) NEW YORK - It has been more than two years since Roger Clemens faced the Mets. But after throwing in the bullpen yesterday, he said he is ready to go deep into tomorrow night's game against them. "I could throw 110, 120 pitches and not be fatigued," he said. Clemens is scheduled to face left-hander Oliver Perez at the Stadium as the second half of the Subway Series gets under way. Clemens went six innings against the Pirates on Saturday, allowing three runs on five hits and striking out seven. He threw 108 pitches. "I'm just getting back into the swing of things again," Clemens said as he stood outside the door of the weight room. "There's somewhat of a set routine the last couple of days. ... Performance-wise, I expect to get sharper and stronger." Manager Joe Torre said he believes Clemens will be able to give the Yankees six or seven innings in most of his starts. Clemens is 3-5 with a 5.09 ERA in 10 career starts against the Mets. He has not faced them since April 13, 2005, in Houston, where he threw seven shutout innings. The Mets have changed dramatically since then. The only position players still with the team are Carlos Beltran, Ramon Castro, Jose Reyes and David Wright. Clemens revealed that he has found a place to live in the suburbs. So while he has an agreement with the Yankees to spend time away from the team if he wants, that might not be much of an issue. His wife and two youngest sons have joined him in New York. "We're settling in, and it's all coming together," he said. The terror of Taiwan: Chien-Ming Wang is 0 for 5 at the plate in his career. But he was a good hitter as a high school first baseman in Taiwan and showed it yesterday when he homered off Ron Guidry in batting practice. "Closed my eyes," Wang jokingly said after hitting a ball to the seats in left field. Guidry threw his next pitch behind Wang, getting a big laugh from the rest of the team. Wang is preparing for the team's interleague road games next week. "I'll let him swing," Torre said. Wang's friend, Dodgers pitcher Hong-Chih Kuo, homered against the Mets on Tuesday night and flipped his bat like he was Big Papi Ortiz. "That was funny," Wang said. "I just want to get a single." Kuo is the first player from Taiwan to homer in a major-league game. Wang and Kuo once played together on a high school all-star team in Taiwan. Moving up: Jorge Posada's home run in the second inning was the 206th of his career. That moved him past Dave Winfield for ninth place in team history. Don Mattingly (222) is in eighth place. Extra bases: Torre plans to use Alex Rodriguez as the designated hitter today and likely will play Miguel Cairo at third. Johnny Damon will get the day off. ... Torre has no plans to abandon Kyle Farnsworth as his primary setup man. But he and Guidry are concerned about Farnsworth's slider, which has been ineffective. Farnsworth has a 4.78 ERA and only 15 strikeouts in 26 1/3 innings. He fanned 75 in 66 innings last season. ... The Yankees signed 21st-round draft pick Justin Snyder of San Diego. The second baseman agreed to a bonus of $100,000. ... The Yankees signed catcher Freuny Parra of Queens and Connors State College in Oklahoma as an undrafted free agent. --- 小王那段新聞王版已有翻譯文 --- 洋基現在的氣氛好歡樂喔 ^_^ -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 125.232.145.236
