NEW YORK -- Wil Nieves knows his role with the Yankees. He knows he's here
for defense -- to fill the gap behind the plate when starting catcher Jorge
Posada needs a blow. And Nieves knows that no amount of offensive success --
and he's seen some, batting .364 over his past four starts -- will change
that.

阿尼知道他在洋基擔任的任務是--當POSADA需要休息時，他必須替補他的捕手角色，
阿尼也知道自己不常提供成功的打擊火力。但他的打擊逐漸有起色，在最近的四次先
發中，打擊率達到3成64。

"I always tell that to my wife," Nieves said. "I'm like, 'Babe, if I go
0-for-4 and we win, I'm happy.' If I go 4-for-4 and we lose because I didn't
call a good game, then I'm not playing for the team."

Nieves also knows that his role is changing: it's expanding. And he's plenty
pleased with that.

阿尼也知道他的角色正在改變、伸展，而他滿心愉悅的接受這一切。

Nieves has evolved over the last month into Mike Mussina's personal catcher,
with Wednesday marking the fourth straight game that he's caught the veteran
right-hander. And manager Joe Torre has paired the two for good reason. In
five total starts with Nieves as his batterymate, Mussina has a 3.49 ERA. In
four starts with Posada, that mark jumps up to 9.00.

阿尼在上個月循序漸進的成為穆帥御用捕手，星期三將是他連續第四場為穆帥做蹲補。
Torre有足夠的理由讓他倆配對︰在他倆合作過的五場比賽中，穆帥的ERA為3.49；而和
POSADA合作的四場比賽中，指數飆到9.00。

It's the reason why Torre went with Nieves on Wednesday despite Sunday's day
game and Monday's off-day, giving Posada a mini-vacation heading into the
week. There's no doubt Torre needs his veteran backstop's hot bat -- he
slotted Posada, who hit a second-inning homer, as his designated hitter on
Wednesday -- so he's willing to put both his catchers in the game even with
the risks.

這是促使Torre在星期三讓阿尼蹲補的因素，儘管星期日的日賽和星期一的休賽，在這星
期一開始就讓POSADA有一個迷你假期。不容懷疑的，Torre還是需要POSADA的打擊火力。

Should the Yankees need to pinch-hit for Nieves in a close game, Posada would
take over at catcher. And by putting Posada there in the first place, it
forces Johnny Damon into the field, where injury to his frail legs is always
a possibility.

萬一洋基在比數接近且需將阿尼換下並指派替補時，POSADA將接下捕手位置。而因為指
定打擊已經給了POSADA，這將迫使大門必須到外野擔任守備--那可能會增加他脆弱的腳因

But the benefits of pairing Nieves with Mussina seem too good to ignore.

兩害相權取其輕，阿尼和穆帥配對的效果卻令人無法忽視。

"His pitching has been better," Torre said of Mussina. "Now is the catcher
responsible? I don't know. But until I'm sure he isn't, we're going to keep
doing it."

〝他球投的越來越優異，〞Torre說到穆帥。〝這是捕手的緣故嗎？我不知道。但直到
我確認原因之前，我還是會持續讓他倆搭配。〞

At times, it can be a bit of a challenge for Nieves, trying to lock minds
with the usually quiet Mussina. But at others, it's easy, with Mussina
needing nothing more than a guide.

在平常時，要和沉靜的穆帥交流，對阿尼來說是一個挑戰。但當兩人進入投補搭配時，
事情就變的簡單多了。

"He's going to throw whatever he wants to throw," Nieves said. "He's a guy
that's been around, and he knows himself. You just want to be on the same
page."

〝他可以隨心所欲的將球投到他想投的地方，〞阿尼說︰〝他是老手，並且他很了解自
己，你只要跟他步調相同就行了。〞

And as long as Nieves stays on that page, it'll give Posada the rest he needs
to stay fresh for the ever-more-likely postseason.

當阿尼持續的和穆帥保持好調，意味著將在季後賽越來越緊湊的情況下，給予POSADA
適當的休息時間。

"That's a good thing for Jorge that he can have at least one day off a week,"
Nieves said. "He's a machine. Whenever you play him, he's going to play. But
we need a healthy Jorge; we don't want to kill him. That's good for him, and
it's good for me."

〝每星期可以休息一天，對Jorge來說是件好事，〞阿尼說︰〝他像部機器，不論何時
當你需要他時，他隨時可以運作。但我們需要的是健康的Jorge，我們不想殺了他。
這樣做對我和他來說，都是有益無害的。〞
