23 A few things for you:

Bobby Abreu was bunting for a hit in the 11th inning because he was 2 for 18
against Steve Kline. … Joe Torre said he was not going to use Mariano Rivera
for more than one inning today, so he was only coming in if they got the
lead. … Wang’s blister/fingernail problem resurfaced in the seventh inning
and he was bleeding when he came out of the game.

Big effort by Proctor, who allowed the winning single on the 86th pitch he
had thrown in the last three days. After the game, in describing the chopper
by Omar Vizquel, he said something that could get him in trouble. “I jumped
as high as I could. If I wasn’t white, I might have had a chance of getting
it,” he said.

Proctor was trying to be funny but some people may not take it that way. It
will be interesting if that comment blows up on him. It could.

Derek Jeter has a hip flexor he suffered in the first inning. If he misses a
game, it would only be one. He wants to play. The Yankees could start
tomorrow with Miguel Cairo at shortstop and Andy Phillips at first and Wil
Nieves catching. Jorge Posada could play first but Torre wants to give him a
day off after catching 13 innings.
