Yankees midseason report card

Brian Cashman: C-
現金人︰C-

The Yankees' general manager should have known better than to count on Carl
Pavano, made a costly mistake with Kei Igawa and could have shored up the
bullpen better. He couldn't have expected the heap of injuries or the abrupt
dropoff of Johnny Damon, Bobby Abreu and Robinson Cano, among others.

身為總經理的他應該知道不能對痛痛人抱有期望、犯下簽了宅宅的錯誤決策、並且要將
牛棚操作的更穩固。他無法預料的是不斷的傷兵及大門、阿布和小Q突然衰退的表現。

Joe Torre: C
扥爺︰C

Torre can't hit for Damon, can't pitch for Pavano and can't take Kyle
Farnsworth's spot in the bullpen. At times the team seems to lack fire,
though, and the manager can have an impact in that area. He doesn't need to
throw chairs, but players must know their level of play has been unacceptable.

他不能幫大門打擊、不能幫痛痛人投球、更無法頂替放肆火在牛棚的位置。有時在隊伍
缺乏士氣時，身為總教練的他應該要帶頭激勵。他不需要摔椅子，但必須要讓球員了解
他們的表現是多麼令人難以接受。

Alex Rodriguez: A
A-ROD︰A

A player who could finish his career in the conversation about best baseball
player in history is having his best season yet. Rodriguez's first-half
numbers (30 homers, 86 RBIs in 86 games, including the suspended game against
Baltimore) are off the charts. Without him, the Yankees already would be done.

這位以後會被人們津津樂道的最佳球員，本季依然表現亮眼。A-ROD前半球季的紀錄翻新
(30支全壘打、86場賽事86分打點，包含那場被保留的比賽)。沒有他，洋基早就沉到谷
底。

Derek Jeter: A
隊長︰A

Just another stellar year for the captain. His numbers look a lot like those
of last year, when he was the runner-up for the MVP.

又是隊長發光發熱的一年，他的數據和去年類似，當時他是MVP第二名。

Jorge Posada: A
吼黑︰A

Has taken his offense to a new level and has been the most consistent Yankees
hitter. Yes, even more so than A-Rod.

最穩定的洋基打擊者，攻擊火力的等級達到新高。是的，甚至超越A-ROD。

Chien-Ming Wang: A
小王︰A

He began the season on the disabled list with a hamstring injury but has nine
wins and an ERA lower than last season, when he was the runner-up for the Cy
Young Award.

他在季初因大腿筋拉傷待在傷兵名單，現在他已經有九勝且ERA比去年低，當時他是賽揚
獎競爭的第二名。

Andy Pettitte: B
派派︰B

This would have been an "A" a few weeks ago, but Pettitte had two horrific
starts to end the first half.

幾個星期前他應該是"A"，但在上半季結束前，他投了兩場糟透了的先發。

Roger Clemens: B
老克︰B

There were some doubts early, and there still might be, if only because
signing him was a waste with the Yankees below .500. His last two starts were
phenomenal, though.

初期的疑慮持續至今。即使上兩場先發他表現的很優異，但洋基的勝率只在五成以下，
簽下他顯得有點多餘。

Andy Phillips: B
飛利浦︰B

He hasn't been here long, but he's been impressive.

Small body of work yet a good one.

工作量少卻做的好。

Mariano Rivera: B-

His April was terrible. Rivera has been terrific since, though his save
opportunities have been limited.

度過了糟糕的四月，之後的他表現的極為稱職，儘管他救援機會有限。

Melky Cabrera: B-
小卡布︰B-

Without Cabrera, the Yankees' outfield would really be weak. Offense warmed
up with weather and more regular work. Jury still out on his future as
Yankees' centerfielder.

沒有小卡布，洋基的外野區形同癱瘓。隨著天氣變熱，打擊也跟著加溫。推測他未來仍
是洋基的外野手。

Hideki Matsui: C+
馬祖以︰C+

Has not been as consistent as usual, but went on a tear just before the break.

原本不像過去那麼的穩固，但在明星賽前開始表現亮麗。

Brian Bruney: C+
天天B︰C+

Way too many walks, especially since the beginning of June.

從六月開始，投出太多次的保送。

Mike Mussina: C
穆帥︰C

Much-improved in his last seven starts compared to his first seven.

後七次先發比他前七次先發，表現好很多了。

Miguel Cairo: C
開羅︰C

Has mostly been a capable sub.

大部分情況下是位稱職的工具人。

Robinson Cano: C-
小Q︰C-

Not the offensive stud he was last year, but productive of late. Needs to
show more power and consistency.

攻擊力不如去年，但最近開始發功。需要展現出砲瓦和穩定性。

Jason Giambi: C-
大吉︰C-

Showed big-time offense in April and nearly none in May; has been on the
disabled list since.

四月發功五月熄火，至今還在傷兵之列。

Scott Proctor: C-
天天P︰C-

Finished on a high note. Remains an always-ready reliever.

收尾成績是好的，依然會是天天P。

Mike Myers: D
老邁︰D

Has allowed 40 percent of inherited runners to score and has not been able to
get lefthanded hitters out.

他有40%的機率，會讓上一位投手留在壘上的跑者回來得分，而且無法讓左打者出局。

Luis Vizcaino: D
LV︰D

Terrible in April and May. Excellent in June and to begin July.

四月和五月糟透了，六月至七月初表現出色。

Doug Mientkiewicz: D
小明︰D

Finally came out of a month-long slump, then broke his wrist.

終於走出長達一個月的低潮，卻折斷了他的手腕。

Bobby Abreu: D
阿布︰D

Has performed well -- really well -- for a couple of streaks. Has performed
badly -- really badly -- for most of the year.

表現好時--非常好--接二連三的安打出現。
表現差時--非常差--今年大多如此。

Kyle Farnsworth: D
放肆火︰D

He's given up more than a hit per inning and has pitched only four 1-2-3
innings.

他每局必定會被打出一支安打，只有四局是三上三下結束。

Johnny Damon: F
大門︰F

Age and injuries have caught up to Damon. He looks like a DH without any
power.

年齡+受傷是大門的致命點，他看起來像失去砲瓦的指定打擊。

Wil Nieves: F
阿尼︰F

An offensive void, and 17 of 22 would-be base-stealers have been successful
against him.

攻擊力--零，並且被盜壘22次成功了17次，盜壘者成功的將他打倒。

Kei Igawa: F
阿宅︰F

A huge disappointment and apparent wasted investment.

極大的失望和明顯的浪費投資。

Carl Pavano: F
痛痛人︰F

This is a final failing grade for the Yankees' biggest contract mistake in
recent years.

他是洋基近幾年來，錯誤合約中最失敗的成果。
