Here is a little anecdote for you Chien-Ming Wang fans:

Pitching coach Ron Guidry and third base coach Larry Bowa love engaging Wang
in conversations. Watching two old-school baseball men talk to this kid from
Taiwan is like a situational comedy sometimes.

Before the game today, Guidry and Bowa were asking Wang about life in Taiwan.
Bowa claimed he and Guidry would visit if Wang would show them around. They
were asking Wang if he had a big house where they could sleep and if he had a
bunch of cars. They also wanted to know if he would run for president after
he retired. Wang was cracking up.

“Can I go fishing there?” Bowa said.

“It’s an island,” Wang said. “I think so.”

Derek Jeter, who also enjoys talking with the Wanger, asked if Taiwan had
paparazzi. Wang had no idea what he meant. Then Jeter wanted to know if there
were a lot of hot girls there.

“Yes,” Wang said. “A lot.”

“I’m going, too,” Jeter said. “Wait a second, do they have McDonald’s?”

Guidry told me later how much he genuinely likes Wang.

“He’s so humble and he works so hard,” the Gator said. “You should see
him in the dugout when we take him out of the game. He gets pissed at us.
He’s very competitive. But when he’s not on the mound, he’s a great kid.
That’s what you like to see.”

This is why you can’t judge coaches on statistics every time. How they
relate to a player sitting on the couch at 3:45 p.m. can be just as important
as what happens later. Wang is already a heck of a pitcher and it has a lot
to do with moments like these.


教練群平常看這孩子惦惦不說話...可是卻有這麼多的媒體跟著他...
連母國的大報都放這孩子全開的封面...難怪會說他以後可以回家選總統...

我覺得最好笑的是...Jeter問王建民台灣有沒有麥當勞...
推廣台灣的國民外交...看來是從洋基隊先下手...
