Making his fourth start since returning from a Minor League assignment
intended to tweak his delivery and make him more effective, Igawa had perhaps
his least effective outing, throwing a season-high 115 pitches to get through
five innings.

"Every inning I had runners on base," Igawa said through an interpreter. "I
never had a clean three-out inning. That's what I was dissatisfied with."

While he wasn't economical, catcher Jorge Posada said Igawa's slider had some
late life in a three-run, four-walk performance. That zip accounted in part
for Igawa's seven strikeouts, the most he's had since joining the Yankees.

Yet the path from the dugout to the mound was an oft-traveled route for
pitching coach Ron Guidry, as Igawa continually needed to be reminded of

"He's still fighting with mechanics, that's the biggest thing," Posada said.
"It seems at times he wants to do too much and gets away from his mechanics.
We've got to keep encouraging him and make him understand that he's got great
stuff."

For one night, the constant TLC worked. Guidry visited Igawa three times and
the left-hander settled down on each break. In the second inning, Alex Rios
flew out harmlessly to right; in the fourth, Vernon Wells skied to center;
and in the fifth, Igawa shook off a mound visit to strike out both Aaron Hill
and Gregg Zaun.
這一天 Gator上丘三次 每次都讓井川穩定下來

"Having Ron come out to the mound to calm me down, that helped me a lot,"
Igawa said.
