The Yankees continue to remake their bullpen. Mike Myers will be designated
for assignment today and righthander Jim Brower will be recalled from
Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Myers has been woefully ineffective in his main role of lefthanded
specialist. Lefthanded batters hit .301 against him. He was 3-0 with a 2.66
ERA in 55 appearances. Brower, 34, is 4-1 with a 1.65 ERA and 20 saves for
Scranton.

Meanwhile, Joba Chamberlain, who struck out five in two innings Saturday, is
expected to have at least one more relief outing at Triple-A. "He's not
getting on a plane to Toronto [today]," GM Brian Cashman said.

Matsui gets ball back

As milestones go, Hideki Matsui's 100th big-league homer didn't quite measure
up to Alex Rodriguez's 500th anticipation-wise.

Matsui's solo shot - a towering drive into the short porch in rightfield in
the third inning of the Yankees' 8-5 win over the Royals yesterday - didn't
lead to high-stakes negotiations when the Yankees tried to get it back from
the man who caught it, Alexander Martinez, 35, of Hartford.

Unlike A-Rod, who still is awaiting word on the fate of his milestone ball,
Matsui got his 100th back. Martinez - who, amazingly, also caught Melky
Cabrera's homer to a nearby spot in the sixth - gave it to Matsui in exchange
for an autographed bat and ball.

Giambi update

Jason Giambi played nine innings at first for Scranton, went 0-for-3 with a
walk and made a throwing error. He will join the Yankees in Toronto today but
will not be activated yet.

Extra bases

Derek Jeter was hit in the left hand by a pitch in the fourth but stayed in
the game. Both benches were warned after Mike Mussina hit Emil Brown in the
sixth ... Scary moment in the eighth: Roger Clemens introduced fan favorite
"Cotton Eye Joe" on the scoreboard, but the Village People's "YMCA" started
to play on the loudspeaker. A crisis was averted when "YMCA" was replaced
with "Cotton Eye Joe" after 10 seconds or so.
