The assumption of both articles, the USA Today one, and the one Larry wrote is
that the road team draws fans because the fans want to see that particular
road team WIN. What if more home fans come to see a particular team come to
town because they want their home team to BEAT them?
The article's conclusion could have easily been the road team that draws
the most amount of fans is the LEAST popular team in America. I'm sure there
is anecdotal evidence to support the assumption that the extra fans belong
to the road team, but you know what they say about anecdotes... ok I don't
know, make something up.
Yes people have a right to bad taste, but people also have the right for some
schadenfreudistic fun once in a while.
Personally, I think this is the WWE's marketing strategy at work. WWE stadiums
don't sell out every week because John Cena is the face and has the belt.
WWE stadiums might sell out every week because people show up every week
hoping that they might be there to see John Cena LOSE the belt.
