SPLIT DECISION LIES AHEAD
IF JOE GOES, OTHERS MAY FOLLOW LEADER

嘴炮王的文章雖然多數不太能看, 但這篇稍微參考一下好了

重點: 老托走了可能帶走一串粽子, 包括Posada, MO, Pettitte 及老克, 但不影響A-Rod

1. 老托是否還是總教練可能影響洋基球隊2008的登錄名單。

2. 老托的未來可能影響Posada, Mo, Pettitte及老克在世界大賽後的動向。A-Rod則沒有
   跟上述四位一樣跟老托有些歷史淵源, 對A-Rod會不會跳脫合約變成FA不用期待有何作
   用。

3. Posada說: "我看不到我會為任何人打球!"，那假如老托走了，Posada會走嗎? Posada
   說: "就看誰會來。"

4. 現金人從季初開始就說他注意2007, 那意味著老托, Posada和MO都要等到在季後才知
   道他們會不會留下。A-Rod也是一樣，雖然在明星賽的空檔洋基曾透露想要留下這個
　 MVP的候選人，但很快地口風又變得很緊了。

5. 老托還沒準備好要退休，尤其看到張伯倫和大帝這些21歲的年輕人出現後，又覺得精
   力充沛起來。大老闆拒絕談論老托的未來，意思好像要老托拿到世界大賽冠軍後才會
　 要老托留下。

6. Posada今年是合約年，在缺乏一流捕手的自由市場下，有機會拿到3年4千2百萬的合
   約。36歲Posada說: "Torre仍想要當總教練，這是他表達的意思。無疑的是，我想看
   見他在這兒，他是我唯一一個我為他打過球的總教練，我覺得他是最棒的。但我不知
   道將會發生什麼事。"

7. Rivera有一個目標是希望在新的洋基球場投球(新球場將於2009年開啟), 他很重視為
   老托打球。Rivera的年薪是一千零五十萬, 他希望拿到兩年的合約，要求一年至少一
　 千四百萬，他十一月則要滿38歲了。Rivera說:"我在這裡一直都跟在老托，我希望我
   跟他打球直到我退休。" 問他是否在沒有老托時會在洋基投球，他說: "我現在不能回
   答這個問題，因為我們不知道老托自己還要不要繼續當總教練。我想要繼續投下去，
   我希望Joe繼續當總教練。有很多事必須要作，洋基必須要作決定。"

8. Pettitte明年有1千6佰萬的合約優先權，他一點也不隱藏他與老托的感情, 老托是這
   個左投手回到Bronx眾多理由之一。Pettitte也是自由市場沒幾個好的先發自由球員
   的一條大魚, 他說: "我愛死老托了，他就像我的老爸, 他是個很棒的總教練，為他
   打球太棒了。

9. 老克也很明白的表示，老托如果不是總教練今年他不可能回來, 所以你可以假定如果
   老克2008還要打個半季，但老托已經不是總教練了，洋基在登錄名單裡會錯過這個
   大咖。

  Pettitte, who has the say on a $16 million option for next year, doesn’t
hide his feelings for Torre, who was one of the main reasons the lefty
returned to The Bronx.

“I love him to death. He is like a dad to me,” said Pettitte, who will be
worth a lot more than one year and $16 million on a weak free-agent market
for starters. “He is a great manager and great to play for.”

Clemens made it clear that he wouldn’t have come back had Torre not been the
manager, so you can assume if Clemens decides to work a half season in 2008
and Torre isn’t managing, the Yankees can cross him off the list.

August 24, 2007 -- DETROIT - The man in the manager’s office will
have a huge impact on what the Yankees’ 2008 roster will look like.

While the Yankees are involved in two races - the AL East and wild card -
there is no avoiding what looms beyond this season. Joe Torre is doing a
wonderful job as a lame-duck manager, and his future will have an impact on
what free agents Jorge Posada, Mariano Rivera, Andy Pettitte and Roger
Clemens will do following the World Series. Since Alex Rodriguez doesn’t
have the history the others do with Torre, the manager’s future doesn’t
expect to play a role in Rodriguez’ decision to opt out and become a free
agent or stay.

However, it will impact what Posada does.

“I don’t see myself playing for anybody else,” the All-Star told The Post.

So, if Torre leaves, does that mean Posada goes, too?

“Let’s see who is coming in,” the catcher said.

GM Brian Cashman’s stance since the start of spring training is that the
focus is on 2007. That meant Torre, Rivera and Posada have to wait until
after the season to see where they fit. The same went for Rodriguez, but at
the All-Star break word leaked out the Yankees were willing to talk about an
extension with the MVP candidate, but he shut that down quickly.

Torre isn’t ready to retire and has been energized by the emergence of
21-year-old pitchers Joba Chamberlain and Phil Hughes. Still, George
Steinbrenner has refused to discuss Torre’s future, which is a strong
indication Torre has to get the Yankees to the World Series in order to be
asked back.

Posada, who will be coming off a career year when he hits a free-agent market
devoid of front-line catchers, could command a three-year deal worth $42
million. And the 36-year-old switch-hitter may only have to look as far as
Queens to get it.

Still, his heart is in The Bronx. But the strings are attached to Torre.

“Joe still wants to manage, that’s what he addressed,” said Posada, who is
earning $12 million this year and takes a career-high .336 average into
tonight’s game against the Tigers. “I would like to see him here, no
question. He is the only manager I have played for and I think he is the
best, but I don’t know what is going to happen.”

Rivera, who has repeatedly said a goal of his is to pitch in the new Yankee
Stadium (opening in 2009), values playing for Torre.

“Joe has been there for me in all aspects,” said Rivera, who is making
$10.5 million and will be looking for at least a two-year deal and could
command $14 million a year. He will be 38 in November. “I would like to play
with him until I retire. What I have going with him says something.”

Asked if he would pitch for the Yankees without Torre in the dugout, Rivera
said, “I can’t answer that right now because I don’t know if Joe wants to
continue. I want to continue playing. I hope Joe continues to manage. There
are a lot of things that have to be done and a decision the Yankees have to
make.”

Pettitte, who has the say on a $16 million option for next year, doesn’t
