Roger Clemens remains on track to pitch Game 3 of the ALDS, though a
simulated game will have to wait until today.

Clemens, who is recovering from a sore left hamstring, was scheduled to
face hitters in a simulated game yesterday but instead threw 49 pitches off
a bullpen mound at the Yankees' complex in Tampa, Fla. He also took 25
grounders, long-tossed and did light running.

If Clemens pitches a simulated game today, that would seem to set him up for
his start in Game 3, five days later.

If Clemens is unable to start at Yankee Stadium on Sunday, Mike Mussina would
likely fill in, with rookie Phil Hughes available as a Game 4 starter.

"If he feels he needs another session, I think we have choices at that point
in time," manager Joe Torre said yesterday at Jose Marti Middle School in
Union City, where he was opening a "Margaret's Place" safe room as part of
his Safe at Home Foundation's work against domestic violence.

Torre also said he expected Hideki Matsui, who had fluid drained from his
right knee Sunday, to be ready to start Thursday's game, most likely as the
designated hitter. Right-handed slugger Shelley Duncan will also be an option
at DH against Cleveland's lefty starter C.C. Sabathia.

The Yankees playoff roster does not need to be set until noon Thursday,
the opening day of the series, but the Yankees sent seven pitchers home after
the final game of the season Sunday: Brian Bruney, Tyler Clippard, Kei Igawa,
Jeff Karstens, Sean Henn, Matt DeSalvo and Chase Wright.

Rookie reliever Ross Ohlendorf, who pitched at Princeton, remains in the mix
for a spot on the playoff roster, as does reliever Jose Veras.

The Yankees announced yesterday that they have formed a partnership with
Creative Artists Agency (CAA) to market corporate sponsorships for the new
Yankee Stadium, set to open for the 2009 season.

"We are thrilled to be associated with internationally regarded Creative
Artists Agency," Yankees chief operating officer Lonn Trost said in a
statement. "CAA's worldwide client base and global reach is extremely
well-suited for the New York Yankees and its global brand identification."

Yankees games on the YES Network this season produced the highest baseball
ratings ever for a New York regional sports network. YES averaged a 4.69 TV
household rating (454,000 total viewers) for its 2007 games, a 9.6 percent
year-over-year ratings increase from 2006.
