Mientkiewicz injures ankle in mishap

小明又受傷了!!

The Yankees' TV network nearly knocked out the team's starting first
baseman. And he ended up playing just four innings anyway.

洋基TV差點毀了自家的一壘手

The Yankees survived a scare after a YES cameraman tripped and landed
on Doug Mientkiewicz's left ankle. With the help of a heavy tape job,
Mientkiewicz stayed in the lineup.

With the Yankees down 4-2 in the top of the fifth, manager Joe Torre
had Shelley Duncan pinch hit for Mientkiewicz and stay in at first
base, but not because of the ankle.

五局上時換上Duncan,但並不是因為他的傷

"I was trying to get something started," Torre said.

Mientkiewicz was getting off the team bus at Jacobs Field at about
1:30 p.m. when the cameraman, backpedaling, fell onto his ankle.
Ten years ago, Mientkiewicz had surgery to repair a broken bone in
that ankle, and he still has a screw in there.

"Anytime someone taps that foot, it's like an M-80 going off," he said.
"I rolled it pretty good. I thought I was dead. I've had a lot of damage
to that left foot. I stub my toe and it hurts."

Mientkiewicz tested the ankle with fielding and hitting drills before
the game. While Torre said he noticed Mientkewicz "limping a little
bit" after he came out of the game, Mientkiewicz insisted he was not
limited.

The cameraman, a freelancer, was sent home by YES and will not work
again this series.

"I didn't want that by any means," Mientkiewicz said. "We've got a
lot better players to sabotage than me. It's a mistake. People make
mistakes. He doesn't deserve (to be fired). He deserves better than that."

YES director of communications Eric Handler said the cameraman, whose
name he did not have, had been told to stop shooting his piece but
continued to film anyway.

"The accident occurred because he didn't follow instructions," Handler
said. "That's why he was relieved of his duties. We're extremely careful
not to put players at risk, whether it be the Yankees, the Indians or
whomever."

Ross Ohlendorf got a rough introduction to postseason play. Put on the
postseason roster after just six big-league appearances, he allowed
three runs in an inning of work.

"I had trouble keeping the ball down," said Ohlendorf, who gave up a
homer and three doubles. "I gave up a bunch of first-pitch hits where
I just threw too much over the middle of the plate."

球一直偏高,所以一直被打

Johnny Damon became the first player to homer leading off the top of
the first inning of Game 1 of a postseason series. But the Yankees
missed a chance to do major damage in the inning.

Damon pulled a high 3-1 fastball down the right-field line. Right-field
umpire Jim Wolf initially ruled it a foul ball. As Damon circled the
bases, manager Joe Torre argued the call.

打出去後右線審第一時間判定是界外球,而老托很火的上來理論

"I just kept running around the bases," Damon said. "No matter what
the ruling was, I was going to be at home plate again."

After a conference of the six umpires, crew chief (and home-plate
umpire) Bruce Froemming signaled home run. Indians manager Eric Wedge
briefly protested, but to no avail.

經過開會主審改判為全壘打,這時候換笑臉人的教練不爽了

Torre spoke to George Steinbrenner on Wednesday. After the Yankees
decided on their playoff roster, Torre and GM Brian Cashman called
Steinbrenner from Torre's office at Jacobs Field and put the owner
on a speaker phone to get his approval.
"He sounds like" he's excited, Torre said.
Steinbrenner is expected to attend the Division Series games in
New York.

洋基老闆很期待接下來的比賽

Jason Giambi is a "bench player," Torre said. Torre said he expects
to play Hideki Matsui and Damon every game at DH and left field,
respectively, and Mientkiewicz has become the regular first baseman.

大吉是板凳,Matsui and Damon將會是DH跟LF,小明是1B

"If we see something these next couple of days that we want to do
something different," Torre said, "(Giambi) could be included."

"但是會看這幾天再決定是否會變動打線"老托說

Damon is "necessary for us right now," Torre said.

Damon現在很重要

"Whatever they need," Giambi said.
