Pettitte still mulling Yanks option

HOUSTON (AP) -- Pitcher Andy Pettitte isn't ready to say whether he will
exercise his option to play for the New York Yankees, but he's certain that
if he doesn't play for them he won't play for anyone.

"The New York Yankees committed an awful lot of money to me and put it in my
hands, gave me a player option and trusted me with that option," Pettitte
said in a story posted on Houston television station KRIV's Web site. "It
probably wouldn't be real honorable for me not to do anything other than if
I shut it down, shut it down or go back and play for the New York Yankees."

Pettitte said he won't let the managerial changes for the Yankees figure into
his decision.

"I gotta figure out in my mind exactly what I want to do," he said.

Pettitte said he is happy for Joe Girardi, who has been named manager. He
said the other candidates for Joe Torre's replacement also would have been
good choices.

Pettitte went 15-9 with a 4.05 ERA last season.
