[新聞] Legging out triple, Chavez breaks bone in foot

DETROIT -- After pulling up lame while legging out his first triple since
2007, Yankees infielder Eric Chavez was taken out of Thursday's 6-3 loss to
the Tigers with a small fracture in the fifth metatarsal of his left foot.

Chavez, who took the first available flight to New York and is scheduled to
visit the team doctor on Friday, will be placed on the disabled list. The
Yankees are expected to make a corresponding roster move before Friday's
series opener at Texas.

Chavez, filling in at third base while Alex Rodriguez sat out of the starting
lineup, tied the game with an RBI triple off Tigers starter Rick Porcello in
the top of the fourth but slowed up as he trotted into third base.

After being checked out by assistant athletic trainer Steve Donohue and
manager Joe Girardi, Chavez walked gingerly off the field and A-Rod came in
to pinch-run.

Chavez was off to a nice start to the season as a lefty pinch-hitter and
corner-infield fill-in, batting .290 with a .405 on-base percentage in 16
games heading into the series finale at Comerica Park.

A six-time American League Gold Glove Award winner and one of the best third
basemen in baseball from 2001-06, Chavez has been ravaged by injuries since.
