Jeter joins Bombers' spring fling

Another day at the Yankees' minor-league complex and several position
players showed up to hit, run and throw, including Derek Jeter, Brett Gardner
and Jorge Posada. Posada continued his throwing program for his recovering
shoulder and all three hit on one of the immaculate fields there. It was
nice to smell freshly-mown grass again, frankly. The sun was shining
brightly, the sky was crystal blue. The only annoying weather factor was
a chilly wind, but it's not much to complain about considering
everything else.

Jeter、Gardner、Posada在春訓基地出現分別進行打擊練習、
Posada還進行了傳接球練習。

After the players hit, Gardner stuck around for some extra bunting practice.
That, clearly, will be a big part of his game if he is a regular player.
He is working hard on bunting and chopping the ball and good for him.

打擊練習後，Gardner還進行短打練習，看來這會是他成為固定先發成員時，
在比賽中很重要的一部份。

Other sights and sounds: Joba Chamberlain played catch with Chien-Ming Wang
in the morning. Brian Bruney - very slim-looking - threw a bullpen session
alongside another skinny-looking fella - Jonathan Albaladejo.

而在球場的另一邊：早上Joba和王建民一起進行傳接球。
看起來瘦了不少的Brian Bruney以及 Jonathan Albaladejo一起進行牛棚練投。


Beyond the outfield fences of the field Jeter et al were hitting on,
workers were tearing down the tents and exhibits from the "NFL Experience,"
the interactive fan thing from the Super Bowl.


There are about 60 players working out daily at the complex, most of them
minor-leaguers. Top prospects such as Andrew Brackman and Mark Melancon are
among them.

Saw only a large banner that celebrates the inaugural season at the new
Yankee Stadium.

想找老闆家族的成員，沒看到，反倒看到一個慶祝洋基遷入新球場的標語。

Finally, had a long, entertaining talk with Jeter, who is ultra-excited about
this season because of all the new additions.

終於有機會跟隊長聊聊。

He also had the following to say about the World Baseball Classic. He'll be
playing for Team USA and he agreed when asked if the USA not even reaching
the semifinals in 2006 was a disappointment.

他談到上次參與WBC的想法。

"I enjoyed myself (in 2006)," Jeter said. "I think the first time around,
people didn't know what to expect. I think a lot of people said, hey, a
chance to get out of spring training, go play a few games. Once you got
there and started to play, you realized how special it was."

Asked if he thought other countries took the tournament more seriously than
the US, Jeter replied: "I wouldn't necessarily say they took it more
seriously. I think they were better prepared and what I mean by that is
that they are playing throughout this whole time in winter leagues, the
Carribean World Series, the Cuban team playing, Japanese teams playing
earlier. I'm not saying it's an excuse, but I would say it would swing
more toward that than that we didn't take it seriously. We just didn't play
well enough."

Team USA plays an exhibition game against the Yankees on March 3, meaning
Jeter will be playing AGAINST the pinstripes for the first time.

"Hopefully, I won't see any pitches inside," he joked. "I'll know the
catcher."

「希望，投手不會對我投近身球」他開玩笑的說，「我會知道誰是捕手」

Playing for Team USA in 2006 was the first time since Jeter was 18 that
he had worn anything other than a Yankee uniform for a game.

2006穿上美國隊球衣是Jeter從他十八歲時穿上洋基球衣後，
再次穿洋基以外的球衣。
