Posada, Wang finally locate dry land
Seeking field to play on, pair eventually reach Clearwater

CLEARWATER, Fla. --

Those gray skies finally opened up over Florida on Monday, providing
much-needed replenishment for the county reservoirs. That wasn't of much
interest to Chien-Ming Wang and Jorge Posada, who needed a field on which
to play.

With all Minor League action washed out at the Yankees' Himes Avenue
complex, Wang and Posada piled into a car with coaches Tony Pena and
Dave Eiland, scrambling to make it to Dunedin, Fla., to find work
instead against Blue Jays farmhands.

隨著洋基小聯盟基地的比賽因雨取消，王建民與Posada與教練Pena及Eiland一起到

That, too, proved to be a dead end. The vehicle -- packed with four
Yankees in gray uniforms and their equipment -- diverted late in the
trip when Eiland's cell phone rang, a voice informing him that the
stormy weather had crept to Dunedin as well.

"It was like Little League, looking for a dry field to play," Posada said.

So Pena hit the brakes and gunned the engine one more time, steering
toward the Phillies' home stadium in Clearwater, where the Yankees would
wait out a delay and eventually get nine innings of Grapefruit League
baseball in.

"He drives real fast," Wang said of Pena.

The bench coach's lead foot aside, it was a situation the Yankees had
hoped to avoid. Playing under National League rules meant that Wang --
who ended his season with a right foot injury last June 15 running the
bases in Houston -- would have to bat. But it was better than not playing
at all.

其實這是洋基想要避免的場景，因為必須照著國聯的規矩，代表王建民必須上場打擊。


"They said they saw a lot of Pinellas County," manager Joe Girardi said.

「他們說他們看遍Pinellas郡了」吉總說。

With a late lineup change, Wang allowed three runs on five hits in the
start, which he critiqued only as "OK." Having walked two and struck out
two in the 73-pitch outing, Wang said that some of his pitches were still
floating to the plate flat because his body opened up.

雖然打線最後做修改，王建民的先發表現：五安打掉三分，他自己的描述的還OK。
他投73球三振兩人、保送兩人。王建民說有幾球因為他身體開掉而飄高。

Girardi and Posada were more complimentary of Wang, who was named earlier
in the day as the Yankees' starter for an April 3 exhibition to open the
new Yankee Stadium.

但吉總和Posada對於王的表現還是讚許的，

"Each inning that went on, it seemed like his sinker got better," Girardi
said. "That's a good sign. He was down a lot in the zone. That was clearly,
to me, his best outing."

"As he got into the game, he got better," Posada said. "His sinker was
better, his location was a lot better. He threw a couple of pitches here
and there that the ball got away from him a little bit, but his changeup

Instructed not to swing the bat and to stand as far from the pitcher as
possible, there were light moments when Wang cautiously stepped into the box.

With Girardi grumbling in the dugout, Phillies left-hander J.A. Happ needed
six pitches to retire a mannequin in the second inning, working to a 3-1
count before pumping two strikes in. What if Wang had walked?

當吉總緊張的站在Dugout，費城人的左投J.A. Happ第二局時需要六球來三振一個雕像，
在一好三壞後連投兩個好球才三振。但是如果王被保送呢？

"One base at a time," Wang said.

As fans heckled Wang to swing, Happ also tossed five pitches to Wang in
the fourth before Clay Condrey dispatched the pitcher with three final
strikes in the sixth.

雖然球迷想要王揮棒，Happ在第四局時，王建民的打席，投了五球。
Clay Condrey在第六局時三球三振王建民。

"It was amazing," Girardi said. "He saw as many pitches as any hitter we
had today."

「這還挺神奇的，他看的球還比我們任何一個打者多」吉總說。

One day after catching three of four base stealers in a Minor League game,
Posada threw only once, making a strong toss to second base in the third,
but too late to catch the Phillies' Jason Donald.

在四個盜壘者中觸殺三個的比賽一天後，Posada只有在三局時傳向二壘一次，
還是不錯的一次傳球，可惜跑者上壘了。

"I threw the ball after a swing, and it was good and quick," Posada said.
"It felt good coming out of my hand. ... If I'm not 100 [percent], I'm
really, really close."

「我是在揮棒後才傳的，那球我傳的很快也很好，我覺得很好，就算不是百分之百，
我想也很接進了」Posada說。

As he evaluated the day, Posada leaned against a concrete wall, still
dressed in his dirtied uniform pants and a T-shirt. He was waiting to
hitch a ride back to Tampa, Fla., where he would change back into his
street clothes. Just like Little League.

當Posada穿著他的制服靠著牆等待著便車回去Tempa，回去後就會換上便服。
評估他今天就像是少棒選手。
