[新聞] Yankees Lose First Game in New Stadium

The Yankees controlled everything they could about the first game at their
sparkling Bronx palace Thursday. Dozens of storied players hugged the infield
dirt before the game. Yogi Berra tossed the first pitch. Crisp new flags for
every team ringed the frieze, like colorful candles on a white birthday cake.
今天是新球場第一場比賽,洋基今天好好掌握了所有他們能夠控制的事情.
很多傳奇球員在賽前來場上挖土回去做紀念.
第一顆球是由Yogi Berra投出的.
大聯盟所有球隊的隊旗高高升起,像是白色生日蛋糕上的彩色蠟燭一樣好看.

It was a celebration of Yankee glory, and even the weather cooperated. As the
pregame performer John Fogerty would say, the sun came out and there was new
grass on the field. The only problem was the game.
今天是值得慶祝的日子,天氣也很幫忙,就像播報員說的,一切都很好,問題只出在比賽.

The Cleveland Indians, who won the final playoff series at the old Yankee
Stadium, blistered the home team, 10-2, before 48,271 fans. The bullpen
allowed nine runs in the seventh inning after C. C. Sabathia, the new $161
million starter, could not complete six.

hope Thursday’s rout was not an omen.

Sabathia uncoiled for the first pitch to Grady Sizemore — a 94-mile-an-hour
fastball for Ball 1 — at 1:09 p.m. Sizemore then grounded out to first, just
as Baltimore’s Brian Roberts did last Sept. 21 on the final play at the
original stadium.

Ruth’s famous homer also landed beyond right field, and the bat he used to
hit it greeted the first Yankees hitter Thursday. When Derek Jeter came up
against Cliff Lee in the bottom of the first, he found Ruth’s brown bat
stretched across the plate. Jeter picked it up and playfully tried to keep
it, offering his model to the bat boy.

The Ruth bat, on loan from a collector, seemed to bestow a blessing on the
batter’s box from the Yankees’ highest god. But Jeter flied out, and the
Indians were the first team to score, when Ben Francisco came around on Kelly
Shoppach’s two-out double in the fourth.
Babe Ruth的這根球棒是跟收藏家借來的,想要增加洋基的好運氣.  但Jeter只打出飛球
出局,而印地安人卻是得到第一分的那隊, 四局上BEN靠著Shoppach的二壘安打回來得分

Sabathia said that hit especially bothered him, coming with no balls and two
strikes. He allowed no other runs, but he walked five and needed 122 pitches
to wade through five and two-thirds innings. Sabathia’s stuff was lively and
he said his mechanics were sharp, but his command was spotty.
Sabathis說那支二壘打真的擾亂了他,因為是在沒有壞球&兩好球的情況下.  他沒有再失
分了,但他送出了五次保送,還在僅僅5又2/3局就花了122球.  Sabathia說他的狀況ok,

“It was a little frustrating to get such a high pitch count,” he said. “I
need to probably make a little better pitches with two strikes. They did have
some good at-bats, but I just wasn’t making pitches with two strikes —
 good, quality pitches — to get them out.”

Cleveland’s Lee escaped most of his jams through six innings. The Yankees
were 1 for 11 with runners in scoring position, and Thursday’s game was
their first all season in which they did not score four runs.
敵隊的Lee在六局內幾乎完全逃開了洋基的攻勢,洋基們在11次得分位置時只得到一分.
而這場比賽也是這個球季他們第一次沒得超過四分.

They did have the first home run, at least, by Jorge Posada, to straightaway
center with two outs in the fifth. It cleared the blue fence, bouncing in
front of the retired numbers in Monument Park. The fans — including David
Wells, the former Yankees pitcher who sat in the bleachers with his old
admirers — prompted Posada to take a curtain call.
不幸中的大幸,就是第一支全壘打是自己人Posada擊出的,中間方向的,落在一堆退休號碼

Posada was nursing a shoulder injury last September, when his backup, Jose
Molina, smacked the last home run at the old Yankee Stadium. Having the honor
at the new place seemed underwhelming to Posada.
“It felt good,” he said. “A little bittersweet, though.”

It was hard to blame Posada for his nonchalance; the carnage he had witnessed
in the seventh was probably still fresh in his mind. With the game tied, 1-1,
Jose Veras started the inning with a walk. Victor Martinez doubled, and
Jhonny Peralta did the same, scoring two to put Cleveland ahead by 3-1.
很難去抱怨Posada對新球場首砲的不感興趣,畢竟他親眼目睹了七局的大屠殺......

“We’re going to watch the video and see what’s going on, because I know I
can be better than that,” said Veras, the losing pitcher. “Tomorrow’s
going to be O.K. We will have better games than today.”
縱火犯之一的Veras是這場的敗戰投手,他說我們會去看重播看看到底怎麼了,因為他覺得
他可以表現的更好,明天就ok了啦,我們會友比今天更好的比賽/表現的

Marte, who followed, has never had a worse day in his 10-year career. He
allowed six earned runs for the first time since his rookie season. After
throwing a strike with his first pitch, he hit a batter, botched a throw
while fielding a bunt and allowed a run-scoring single in the span of three
pitches.
對馬鐵來說,這是他從政(投球)十年來最糟的一天,從小馬鐵時代至今,他第一次一次丟了
六分. 第一顆是好球,然後他就把第二顆砸到打者身上了,之後有被觸擊嚇到的暴傳,然後

After an out and a walk, Sizemore connected for his slam. A fan in a Yankees
turtleneck threw the ball back onto the field, exchanging a valuable souvenir
for a moral victory. It did not change an eight-run deficit that soon grew
with another homer.
在一出局&一個保送後,Sizemore夯出了他的滿貫砲,一個穿著洋基衣服的球迷撿到那顆球
,把球丟回場內換取了很讚的紀念品,但這改變不了什麼,很快的就又出現了另一支全壘打
,然後差距變成八分...

The inning was so bad that by the end of it, some fans shouted, “We want
Swisher!” — as in Nick Swisher, the outfielder who tossed a scoreless
inning in a blowout at Tampa Bay on Monday. Some Yankees relievers have been
solid so far, but others have been woeful
球迷們開始受不了了,紛紛大叫著"我們要Swiser(來投球)!! 畢竟他上次投出無失分的
一局.  有些牛棚投手是很棒啦,但其他的則很糟糕

“We have to get everyone going in our bullpen,” Girardi said. “You can’t
just rely on four guys; we need everyone. It’s been up and down, and we need
more consistency out of it.”
總教練說話了,他說我們不能只依賴四個人(蝦密!!只有四個!!??), 我們需要每個人都
動起來.

The mound had seemed like hallowed ground before the game, when the Yankees
greats Whitey Ford and Don Larsen scooped dirt from it after the ceremony.
But the Yankees’ poor showing there sent many fans to the exits, including
some from the seats that cost $2,625 a game.
投手丘在賽前看來還是很神聖的,當兩個傳奇洋基投手在那邊挖土做紀念.  但洋基糟糕
的表現讓很多球迷比賽還沒結束就離場了,甚至有些是買在美金2625位置的人

There were no prices so extravagant at the old Stadium, which still stands
across the street, alone with its memories. Its successor has the looks, but
a lot to learn about drama.
舊球場的門票不似現在的那樣昂昂昂貴,舊球場現在還矗立在街道旁,伴隨著她的回憶,
繼任的新球場有著洋基的外貌,但還有很多事情得向舊洋基來學習
