Irked Orioles fans send angry message to native Mark Teixeira

    Mark Teixeira在巴爾地摩城外長大，但卻在城內念中學，他還小時每年還會去看好
幾場金鶯隊的比賽。2003年入選名人堂的金鶯指標一壘手，也是史上最佳的左右開弓打者
之一的 “Steady Eddie” Eddie Murray也是影響他變成左右開弓的打者的主要原因，而
Cal Ripken Jr.也一直是他非常喜愛的球員。在Camden Yards他有著許多年少時美好的回
憶，但他第一次穿條紋衣來到這裡就不是這樣了。金鶯球迷無情地噓他，原因是他挑了洋
基而不是他家鄉的球隊。

    據報導金鶯向他提出了七年一億五千萬的合約，但問題是比洋基少了三千萬(8年)，
所以他根本不可能當金鶯隊的球員。賽前Teixeira接受電視專訪時，便傳來巨大的噓聲
，一位球迷叫著: “我們恨你，叛徒!” 有人則是叫Teixeira “滾出球場”，還有人
叫著: “他看來怎麼像變成一個有錢就為你服務(的婊子)了?”。

    一些球迷舉著標語寫著: “Severna Park恨你，Tex.” 馬里蘭的Severna Park是
Teixeira的家鄉，雖然現在他搬到達拉斯了。Teixeira說他預期得到球迷不會讓他好過，
他表示: “金鶯球迷一直都在噓洋基球員，不管你出身那裡，你在那裡長大。只要你是洋
基球員，你就會被噓。” 但是Teixeira沒料到會被噓這這麼慘。現在還住在馬里蘭的父
母，其他家人和朋友都在球場內也都聽到了這些聲音。

    隆重的賽前介紹時，Teixeira便飽受球迷噓聲的對待。當他第一局他才走向本壘板時
，噓聲便又來了，噓聲還一直持續到Jeremy Guthrie投出第一球為止。當Guthrie準備繼
續投球，噓聲又來了，聲音一直持續到Adam Jones接到Teixeira打出的小飛球時，這時便
傳出喝采聲，而Teixeira走回球員休息區時噓聲更大。

    第三局上場打擊時又被噓，而他打出軟弱滾地球時則傳出喝采聲。第三局下半他處理
Aubrey Huff的滾地球被噓，第五局打擊他在滿球數後被保送也被噓。第八局追平分在三
壘時他上場打擊噓聲更大，結果他變成最後一個出局數則是歡呼聲。

    比賽前， Teixeira和球員休息局的記者閒聊關於他回到家鄉要做的事情，他表示會在
4月7日的放假日去看他的父母，他表示也會在這個系列賽中品嚐當地美味的蟹餅。

    Teixeira過去當然在Camden Yards出賽過，週一前他生涯在這個球場出賽過18場的打
擊率是.261，有4發全壘打。當他還在游騎兵隊是大聯盟的菜鳥時來到這個球場時，當時
的感覺實在非常的特別。他表示: “在完美不食人間煙火的世界裡，金鶯隊就算每年都拿
不到世界大賽冠軍，只要我活著我現在都願意當金鶯隊的球員。我非常愛這個城市也非常
愛這支球隊。但是在商業的世界裡，在棒球的世界裡，有時候你必須要面對困難的抉擇。
當這個抉擇來到面前時，洋基對我是比較適合的選擇。”

    “目前我在洋基隊的感覺非常好，不管是隊員還是教練團，我和大家相處得非常好，
我們已經準備好每一年都要好好地贏球，我想我做了正確的選擇。”


BALTIMORE - Mark Teixeira grew up outside Baltimore, went to high school in
the city and went to a handful of Orioles games each year when he was a kid.
Eddie Murray is the reason he became a switch-hitter and Cal Ripken Jr. was
always one of his favorite players. Camden Yards is a place that holds warm
memories for him, but it's unlikely his first game in pinstripes in his old
stomping grounds will be anything he cares to remember.

Teixeira was booed mercilessly by Orioles fans disappointed he chose the
Yankees over his hometown team. He had a forgettable Yankee debut, grounding
out with the tying run on third base in the eighth inning, ending a Yankee
threat. Teixeira was 0-for-4 with a walk and stranded five runners.

Teixeira was courted by the O's - their best offer reportedly was $150
million over seven years, $30 million less than he got from the Yankees - but
it never really seemed like a possibility that he would play in Baltimore.

When Teixeira emerged from the Yankee dugout to do a pregame TV interview,
fans lurking nearby unleashed a torrent of boos. One fan yelled, "We hate
you, sellout." Another told Teixeira to "get out of our park" and someone
else shouted, "What does it feel like to be a corporate (prostitute)?"

Some fans held up a sign that read, "Severna Park hates you, Tex." Severna
Park, Maryland is Teixeira's hometown, though he now lives year-round in the
Dallas area.

Teixeira said he expected rough treatment, noting, "Oriole fans are going to
boo Yankees. It doesn't matter where you're from, where you grew up. If
you're a Yankee, you're going to get booed."

But Teixeira probably didn't believe it was going to be as bad as it was.
Teixeira's parents, who still live in the area, and other family and friends
were in the stands to hear it.

When he was introduced during the pregame pomp, he was socked with boos. When
he came to the plate in the first inning, it happened again, with the boos
beginning as he started walking to the plate and lasting until well after
Jeremy Guthrie threw his first pitch to the Yankee first baseman.

The boos started again when Guthrie was getting set and it continued through
the at-bat until Teixeira flied to center. There was a big cheer when Adam
Jones squeezed the popup and more boos for Teixeira as he jogged back to the
dugout. He kept his eyes down the whole way in.

He was booed when he batted in the third and cheered when he hit a weak
grounder to the pitcher. In the Orioles' half of the inning, Teixeira was
booed when he fielded Aubrey Huff's grounder. In the fifth, Teixeira walked
on a 3-2 pitch and that result was booed, too.

When he came up in the eighth with the tying run on third base, there were
more boos and then cheers when he made the last out.

Before the game, Teixeira chatted with reporters in the dugout about what
it's like to return home. He'd like to visit his parents on today's off-day,
he said, and he'd also like to dine on crab cakes during the series.

Teixeira has played at Camden Yards before, of course - he had a .261
lifetime average with four homers and 14 RBI in 18 games entering Monday -
and the first time as a Texas rookie was a special day, he said.

"In a perfect world, the Orioles would've won the World Series every year I
was alive and I'd be an Oriole right now," Teixeira said. "I have so much
love for this city, this organization. But in the business world, in the
baseball world, sometimes you have to make difficult decisions. When it came
down to it, the Yankees were a better fit for me.

"I've had a great experience so far (with the Yankees). The guys on the team,
the coaching staff. I fit in right away. We're going to be in a position to
win every single year. Right now, I think I made the right decision."
