Brett Gardner生涯大聯盟首發全壘打，但有人故意搞笑把5-13-09年對Scott Richmond
打出的兩分砲，在球上寫成了5-14-09年對Sam Richmond打出的陽春彈放在Gardner的置
物櫃，球上的字共寫錯了5個字。Gardner表示會把球和他生涯首安的球放在一起，但表示:
"如果這是開玩笑的話，就不太有趣了。"
但Garder打出本季首發全壘打後，已經加入比Ortiz先打出全壘打的球員的名單中，這
些人包括Nick Green, Michel Hernandez, Chad Moeller和Koyie Hill, 這幾個人都是前
洋基的球員。

There’s No Fooling Brett Gardner

The ball from a player’s first hit or home run is a cherished memento, which
means that, in baseball, it’s ripe for a prank. Someone retrieves the ball,
keeps it in a safe place, then presents the rookie with a fake ball, often
with a bunch of swear words scrawled on it.
The Yankees tried it Wednesday night on Brett Gardner, who punched his first
career homer down the right field line in an 8-2 victory over the Blue Jays.
In his locker, he found a ball with no bad words, but five mistakes written
on the sweet spot:
“First career home run, solo shot off Sam Richmand for Brett Garder, 5-14-09
”.
Problem was, it was a two-run shot off Scott Richmond, by Brett Gardner, on
May 13, 2009.
I mean, come on. That’s like changing the grade on a report card from an F
to an A. The unnamed prankster should’ve been more subtle. One or two
mistakes and Gardner might have fallen for it. But five? No shot.
“I’ll put it in my house, along with my first hit ball, I guess – I think
that’s a joke right there,” Gardner said, inspecting the fake as he read
the inscription and chuckled. “Supposed to be a joke. Not too funny, though.
”
Trainer Gene Monahan is actually responsible for inscribing milestone
baseballs for Yankees players. It is one of several unofficial duties for
Monahan, who also fixes players’ gloves is the clubhouse go-to man for all
things related to auto racing.
By the way, add Brett Gardner to the list of players to hit a home run this
season before David Ortiz of the Red Sox. Others include Nick Green, Michel
Hernandez, Chad Moeller and Koyie Hill. (And that’s just among ex-Yankees….)
