  翻譯一些最近Steve Goldman在 Pinstriped blog的文章吧 ...
  (不完全都跟洋基有關..)

  Josh Towers' 0-7 record and 10.09 ERA are something special. Here's a pitcher
whose strength is his outstanding control ?coming into the season he had walked
1.34 men per nine innings, and no women. This season he has already issued 12
free passes in just 30 1/3 innings, so you know something has gone
spectacularly awry. (Is it necessary for me to say "spectacularly" there? You
can急really go cheerfully awry, and dreadfully awry seems redundant. Remember
Twain's adage about the adverb: when in doubt, strike it out.)

  Josh Tower (藍鳥先發投手)的 10.09ERA 跟 0-7紀錄真是特別...這個投手的強項應該
是過人的控球...在本季前他每九局平均保送 1.34個男人而沒有半個女人. 本季他在
30 1/3局中已經保送了 12個人...看的出來他發生了精彩的問題..(後面是文法的討論XD)

  Justin Morneau of the Twins swatted two home runs and drove in six at Texas
on Tuesday. He's now batting .224/.291/.467 with eight home runs. Morneau turns
25 next week. Any time the Twins get bored with his inconsistency and decide to
trade, non-tender, or otherwise dispose of him, the Yankees should pounce.
Speaking of Texas, what will it take to convince Buck Showalter that Rod Barajas,
a catcher with a .276 career on-base percentage, is not an asset? Yankees fans
raged when Showalter was let go, but it was the right move. He's a competent
manager, but not an especially good or insightful one. No doubt Showalter will
be rumored to return when Joe Torre decides to retire.

   Justin Mornerau (雙城的年輕捕手） 在禮拜二跟游擊兵的比賽中打出了兩發全壘打跟
六分打點. 他的打擊目前是 .224/.291/ .467 而有八發全壘打 (譯者按:盲砲?可是前陣子
看他感覺不像啊... ) 他下禮拜轉25歲. 當雙城隊受夠了他的不穩定性而決定要交易.釋出
或是用任何其他方法丟掉他的時候洋基應該要吃下他. 既然說到了游擊兵. 到底要怎麼才
能說服教頭Buck Showalter 說Rod Baraja 這位生涯 .276上壘率的捕手不是個資產? 洋基
迷在Showalter被開除時很不高興..但是那是正確的決定，他是位不錯的教頭，但並不是特
別的好或是聰明。不用說當Torre決定退休時Showalter 很可能會回鍋(譯者按:是因為
Torre也是這樣嗎?XD)

  It's amazing the way the Angels offense has just died. With Casey Kotchman
struggling due to the effects of mononucleosis, the Halos brought back Dallas
McPherson on Tuesday and naturally he struck out three times in three tries.
Even Howie Kendrick, who is going to be a cinch .300 hitter in the majors,
can't connect right now. It was clear that the Angels had neglected their
offense over the winter, but no one would have predicted a .291 team OBP.
They will probably raise that up over .300 ere long, but were they to stay
where they are, they would be the first team under .300 since 1989 (the Braves
were at .298 that year). Discounting 1981, when the Blue Jays posted a .286 OBP,
you have to go back to the 1972 season for a lower team rate of reaching base.
The Padres had a .283 that year, the Rangers .290. The Angels would actually be
a little worse than those Padres, as they're just a little bit more below the
league average than were the Padres. And they have the DH. And park adjustments
probably won't help either.

   天使隊的打擊整個死掉真是頗為神奇。 Casey Kotchman 因為皰疹而打擊不佳(譯者按:
皰疹..? 會不會太雖)，天使隊把Dallas Mcpherson 在禮拜二叫上來而他自然的三次上
來三次三振。即使是Howie Kendrick, 被預測為能夠在大聯盟中有三成打擊率的人現在也
沒辦法碰到球. 很明顯的天使隊在冬天時沒特別顧慮到他們的攻擊火力，但是沒人會想到
會出現.291的隊伍OBP (譯者按: .291??比較強的打擊隊伍的打擊率都差不多有了...)
，他們大概還是能夠把OBP帶過三成..但是萬一這是他們最後的結果的話他們會是1989年以
來第一支不到三成上壘率的隊伍( 當年的勇士隊 .298) 如果不計算1981年藍鳥的.286 OBP
的話你必須回到1972年才有一隊比這個數據更爛..那一年教士隊的上壘率是.283 而游擊兵
是.290..而天使恐怕比那隻教士隊還慘...他們目前相對於聯盟平均的 OBP 還差更多。
他們還有DH.而且球場調整後大概也不會對他們比較有利.

  Tanyon Sturtze and Aaron Small are endangered species. On Monday I wrote that
Sturtze was the most logical pitcher to depart when/as/if Carl Pavano returned.
Small has been murderized in all three of his appearances, underscoring that
his 2005 was one long fluke. You can find dozens of pitchers like this in
baseball history, journeymen who got it all together for six months and then
gave it all back just as quickly. If we could predict what made the universe
decide to bless an otherwise undistinguished pitcher and have all his hard-hit
grounders take 90-degree turns into his fielders' gloves, I'm pretty sure the R
oyals still wouldn't bother to hire us.

   Tanyon Sturtze 跟 Aaron Small是瀕臨絕種的物種了. 禮拜一我有寫道Sturtze大概會
是當Carl Pavano 萬一如果假設回來的時候最合理出局的一位. Small三次出來都被屠殺。
持續證明2005年是一個持久的意外。 你可以在棒球歷史中找到不少其他類似的投手..
四處流浪的旅行家忽然在六個月內完全爆發但是很快的又全部都吐回去。要是我們能夠
預測宇宙間為何會忽然決定保佑一位默默無名的投手而讓他每一顆強擊球都神奇的轉入
野手手套中的話 ....我確定皇家隊大概還是不會僱用我們 (譯者按: XDD..這一方面批評
皇家隊大概需要能預測這種事情才能贏..另一方面又諷刺他們大概即使能這樣還是不會贏.
.)

  After Terry Francona gave Wily Mo Pena a tour of the entire outfield, I began
rooting for the game to last long enough for Francona to send him back in the
opposite direction. I would have called him "Magellan" Mo Pena for the rest of
his career. Heck, I still might. It's ironic that a player who isn't supposed
to be good anywhere in the outfield got to play everywhere in the outfield.

  當紅襪教練 Terry Francona 讓Wily Mo Pena 在一場比賽中守了所有的外野位置後我
開始期待比賽能夠持續到Francona 讓他在回頭一圈.那我就會一直叫他"麥哲倫" Mo Pena
到他的職業生涯結束為止. (譯者按:當我看到game day顯示他 rf-cf-lf的時候我也笑了)
。很諷刺的是一位應該守哪裡都很爛的球員結果每個地方都守.

  Carl Pavano's return seems more likely than ever (keep your fingers crossed
?he may get stung by a bee) and the Yankees can't add a pitcher without losing
one. That assumes they don't intend to shrink an already ludicrous bench to
nothing. Sturtze is the only likely candidate. Not only has he pitched poorly,
but Aaron Small could replace him in the random right-hander role (if Small
himself can pitch well, but that's a story for another time), as would Jaret
Wright, who would be demoted from the rotation.

  Carl Pavano 的歸隊似乎將近(祈禱吧..他說不定會被蜜蜂咬) 而除非洋基要把已經很可
笑的板凳縮小到完全不存在否則他們必須丟掉一個投手。Sturtze是唯一可能的人選。他不
但投的很爛，而且Aaron Small 可以完全取代他的腳色(假設Small本身能投的好..這也不
一定) 最可能從先發中下來的 Jaret Wright也可以取代他的腳色。


The Yankees have another few weeks to play with these concepts, as Pavano won't
be back any sooner. If he doesn't come down with beriberi, or have an eagle
drop a baseball onto his cranium from a height of 5,000 feet. These things
happen.

 洋基還有幾個來拜來考慮，假設Pavano 不感染beriberi (譯者案:這啥?) 或是被老鷹從
五千英尺上丟下來的棒球打中腦袋...這些事情是有可能發生的!!!!
