[新聞] Is this the start of trouble for Yankees' Hughes?

   最近在板上翻了兩篇Hughes投球機制的文章, 也把一些網站上球評的意見轉給大家看,

但看到板上對Hughes的討論, 實在令人搖頭, 有必要這麼嚴苛嗎? 看看以下這篇新聞吧!

重點: 這次的先發真的是洋基隊Hughes的麻煩嗎?

1. 近幾年對上紅襪投得不是很好的洋基選手, 就像芬威的Citgo標誌一般令人容易想起
   的不名譽名單, 就包括了Jeff Karstens, Jose Contrera及Chase Wright, 另外則是
 　像Tim Redding如一場災難的那些名不見經傳的球員。(Citgo sign的典故可以自己
   google一下)

2. Phil Hughes昨晚只投了三局即被換下場並以8比5輸給紅襪之後, 也上到了這個名單上
   了。 這並不意味他會像其他這些先發投手逐漸失去光釆, 甚至連這樣的一點的意思都
   沒有。但的確顯示出本季過去這段時間, 大家是如何對Hughes和洋基其他的年輕投手
   作預期和事實之間的檢驗。

3. 每個人都免不了過度要求這些洋基的選手。球迷, 媒體甚至高階人員, 諸如Hank
   Steinbrenner。很少人的眼裡還認為他們是年輕的球員－就更不用說負擔更重的投
   手了，既然他們是關鍵位置的球員，自然就認為他們就必須表現得跟資深的球員完全
   一樣。即使他們不算是有經驗的球員也不能除外。Hughes昨晚首度遭遇紅襪隊時才只
   有21歲，從24年前19歲的先發投手Jose Rijo以來, 他是在這個球場先發最年輕的洋基
   投手。能讓這個年紀的球員, 在這麼多目光的注意下還能夠全身而退的唯一的理由,
   就是他必須是一個完全不同的動物(或許必須是超級賽亞人)。

4. Ian Kennedy本季投得也有些差錯, 當然他還會有更多的問題，張伯倫目前是穩定的好
   表現，但總有一天在某些時候他也會出現跌跌撞撞的情況。

5. 這當然不是為Hughes昨晚投出的成績找藉口，絕對不是這樣。只是對他的批評也太過
   份了點, 大家都基於某些的理由總是對Hughes設了非常高的期待。可能是他在小聯盟
   時的宰制能力，也或許他去年對上游擊兵隊時投出接近完美的比賽，在6又1/3局的投
   球讓對手一支安打也打不出去，直到他的腿筋拉傷改變了他整個球季的狀況。或許就
   是因為這樣, 他必須讓自己比同年紀的年輕人變得更成熟，但別忘了他不過是一個最
   近才能夠合法地為自己買一瓶啤酒的大男孩。

6. 同樣地，他也被很多人認為他進到大聯盟可以穩當地甚至很容易地拿下15勝, 也是玩
   夢幻球隊的人想要爭相簽下的對象，但現在很多人卻是對他搖頭歎息失望透頂。在目
   光聚焦人群簇擁下, Hughes開季在洋基球場投得相當好，但之後這兩次的先發卻投得很
   糟。Hughes表示: "現在是球季之初這樣的狀況也預期會出現，只是你就是不希望會連
   續兩場出現這樣的狀況。"

7. 在Hughes成長的過程中一直是紅襪的球迷，他到Rhode Island拜訪他的祖父母時有時
   也去芬威球場看比賽。週日站在狹窄的客場球員休息室裡，他被問到他對這古老的芬
　 威球場的感覺時表示: "我還小的時候覺得它非常的酷，但現在進到它的球員休息室裡
   ...感覺卻不太是那麼一回事。"

8 人們不關心這個，可能只會去想像在他只投了兩局多就被轟了七分(六分自責分)之後，
  會對這球場產生什麼樣的感想。他對15個打者投了65球，每局都讓首位上場的球員上壘,
  最後一局裡投了四個人次卻連一個出局數都拿不到，便被換了下場。

9. 實際上，Hughes原本連第一局都投不完，當Hughes對上Varitek時，Giardi已經讓Ross
   Ohlendorf開始熱身，那時球數是3壞0好，最後Hughes讓Varitek看著球被三振。

10. 但是整場比賽完全都是他的錯嗎? 當然不是。如果不是Molina投出一個爆投，同時又
　　漏接了一球，如果不是洋基的打者對上狀況不佳5局投了117球的松阪大輔，卻無法讓
    他受到更大的傷害，這些狀況如果不是同時發生事情恐怕也不會這麼糟。

11. 但大部份的錯還是出在Hughes身上，只是他的情況還不是像一年前的Chase Wright
    那樣簡直是一場災難－這位已經被大家遺忘的左投手，被紅襪連續四位打者轟出全壘
    打。Hughes的情況還不是糟到接近這種狀況。只是他的情況沒有多好看，跟洋基所要
　　的差距實在太遠, 這仍然是那種Hughes必須想辦法忘掉的一個記憶。

12. 這只是三場先發, 現在只是四月, 還只是剛開始, 洋基會這麼說而且這也是事實。
    Hughes本季最後還是會變成我們所要的那樣，只是昨晚的表現跟我們的期望還差得遠
    呢!

BOSTON - The list of Yankees pitchers who have been lit up like the Citgo
sign at Fenway Park in recent years is not a particularly auspicious one:
Jeff Karstens, Jose Contreras and Chase Wright come to mind, along with other
more anonymous trainwrecks like Tim Redding.

Phil Hughes goes on the list now, too, after failing to make it out of the
third inning of last night's 8-5 loss to the Red Sox. It doesn't mean he's
going to fade away like those other starters, doesn't mean that at all. It
does mean it's past time for a reality check on what can fairly be expected
from Hughes and the other young Yankee pitchers this season.

Everyone is guilty of jumping ahead with these Yankees. Fans, media and even
top executives such as Hank Steinbrenner. It is rare to see young players -
let alone pitchers - in such crucial positions for the Yankees, so the
natural inclination is to expect them to perform like the veterans who came
before them. Except they're not veterans. Hughes was 21 when he took the ball
last night for his first-ever start against the Red Sox. He was the youngest
Yankees pitcher to start in this ballpark since 19-year-old Jose Rijo did it
24 years ago, and there is a reason that pitchers of that age rarely step
into the harsh glare of this rivalry unscathed. It is a different animal.

Ian Kennedy has been erratic already this season and will almost surely have
more troubles; Joba Chamberlain has been consistently good, but even he
figures to stumble at some point along the way.

This isn't supposed to be an excuse for last night because Hughes was brutal.
No way around it. But it stung a little more because Hughes, for some reason,
had always felt a little bit more like a given. Maybe it was the minor-league
domination or maybe it was the near-perfect game last year in Texas, the one
where he was untouchable for 6 1/3 innings until a hamstring pull ended his
night and derailed much of his season, too. Maybe it's just the way he
carries himself with more maturity than the average person who only recently
became legal to buy himself beer.

Either way, Hughes always felt like the safer bet, like the one who was going
to step into the majors and succeed right away. He was someone you talked
about in terms of getting 15 wins, easy. He was someone you hoped to draft
for your fantasy team. So far, there has been a lot of head-shaking with
Hughes. A lot of eyes to the ground. A lot of walking around the mound. There
was a solid opening start at Yankee Stadium, but then two awful ones, first
in Kansas City and now last night's debacle in the Fens.

"It's early in the year and it's going to happen," Hughes said. "You just
don't like it to happen in back-to-back starts."

Growing up, Hughes was part of a Red Sox family who visited grandparents in
Rhode Island and made occasional trips to Fenway. Standing in the middle of
the cramped visitors' clubhouse on Saturday, he was asked what he thought of
the ancient ballpark and he said, "I thought it was really cool when I was
young (but) now that I'm in this clubhouse ... not as much."

One can only imagine how he feels about the field itself after getting
knocked around for seven runs (six earned) and six hits in just two-plus
innings. He threw 65 pitches to 15 batters. He put the leadoff man on base in
each inning. He got pulled after failing to record an out through four
hitters in his final frame.

In truth, Hughes nearly didn't make it out of the first. Manager Joe Girardi
had Ross Ohlendorf warming up as Hughes labored against Jason Varitek,
already trailing 3-0, before finally getting the Boston catcher to strike out
looking.

Was it all his fault? It wasn't. Not when catcher Jose Molina makes a wild
throw to second and has a passed ball, too, and not when the Yankees' hitters
can't do more against Sox starter Daisuke Matzuzaka, who needed 117 pitches
to get through five innings himself and probably would have gone to a full
count if Wally the Green Monster had happened to stumble into the batter's
box.

It's still mostly on Hughes. He wasn't as much of a disaster as Wright was
nearly one year ago, when the forgettable lefty served up home runs to four
consecutive hitters. Hughes wasn't nearly as bad as that.

It was still ugly. It was still nothing close to what the Yankees needed. It
was still the kind of memory that Hughes will want to forget.

It's only three starts. It's only April. It's only the beginning, the Yankees
will say, and all of those things are true. In the end, Hughes may well end
up being everything we expected this season. He just wasn't anywhere close to
being it last night.
